CU Theatre & Dance partners with Climate Change Theatre Action 2021 in New York City to produce ten brief climate plays by authors from around the world interspersed with fun Cabaret-style musical numbers. Humor, passion and imagination are put to work envisioning an equitable, survivable and thrive-able future for all life and the ecosystems upon which life depends. Performance is captioned, signed, and wheelchair-accessible (with parking and companion seating available); service animals welcome.
Life in the Plasticene exhibit
Now through October 3
Arbor Institute, 1708 13th Street, Boulder
This exhibit integrates art, ecological science, and storytelling to explore the merging streams of life and plastic worldwide. From microplastics in Colorado streams to cattle foraging for food amongst the plastic waste in India, the exhibition asks: “how did we get here, and where do we go from here?" Photography, films, artifacts, and interviews spark connections, curiosity, and creative thinking. Featuring the work of NeST Fellows Patrick Chandler and David Oonk. Boulder Forum on Economy, Climate and Community

Sign up for the last discussion in a unique series on the role of the economy in both climate change and ultimately climate stabilization, hosted by the City of Boulder. Famed science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson will speak to "Imagining the path forward: Finding a hopeful story for an ominous future." Find out more on the City of Boulder website and join in!

Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN) webinar series
CLEAN is putting on their regular professional development webinar series for K-12 educators again this fall. Please share this info with your networks that include teachers wanting to bring climate and energy into their classrooms. We host this to help teachers learn how to use the CLEAN collection to teach about climate and energy. Find more information about each session and register to attend on the CLEAN website. Can humans live with wildfire?
CU on the Weekend

Talk will take place on Zoom.
As climate-worsened wildfires devastate homes and communities, what information do we need to reduce risk of catastrophic fire? Research and experience suggest residents in fire-prone communities can effectively prepare for wildfires and reduce the odds of losing their homes. But moving residents to action is a big challenge. In this CU on the Weekend talk, Hannah Brenkert-Smith will discuss the role of social science and how local data can improve engagement with residents living in fire-prone communities. She will describe a unique team of researchers and wildfire practitioners working together to develop effective evidence-based wildfire education programs. Register to receive the Zoom link.

The Carillon at Boulder Creek - speaking opportunities
The Carillon at Boulder Creek is a senior living community seeking presentations for residents on a wide variety of sustainability or science topics, from geology to waste to renewable energy to anything else that folks are studying. Do you, or your students, need to give presentations for a course? Are you developing a public-interest talk on a passion project? This is a great chance to speak for 45 minutes to an hour with an enthusiastic, interested general audience (and, I might add, regular voters). Creative (Climate) Communications for a Better World
CU on the Weekend lecture recording now available
Did you miss Max Boykoff's CU on the week lecture on September 25 about climate change communications? Conversations about climate change at the science-policy interface, and in our lives, have been stuck. In this lecture, Max Boykoff highlighted dimensions of his book Creative (Climate) Communications that integrate lessons from the social sciences and humanities to more effectively make connections through issues, people, and things that everyday citizens care about. He argued that a “silver buckshot” approach can help to effectively re-capture a common ground about climate change in the public arena, increasing our engagements to more effectively meet the scale of present and future climate-related challenges.
