Cultivating a Spirit of Generosity
View from the Couch- Kate Williams

I’ve done it more than once.  Putting out the bins, I take a longer look at the cars parked outside the house down the street. I’m out for a run and pass a playground that looks packed with families. Or even worse, I’m riding my bike along the one section of bike track I can’t avoid, and there are dogs, prams and walkers with headphones getting in my way. I’m pretty sure these people are doing the ‘wrong thing’.

Lockdown presents a variety of challenges for each of us. As a lover of rules and order – wanting to make sure I’m doing the ‘right thing’ – worrying about what other people are up to was initially a challenge for me. It was the way lockdown was meant to work. We do the right thing and stay home. The case numbers go down and lockdown is over. Hooray! But it hasn’t worked out that way. While I’ve figured out click-and-collect, embraced supporting local business (i.e. takeaway dinners), and ordered essentials from KMart, cases continue to climb...

Say Bye Live
This being Andy Stevenson's last week on staff here as the Youth Minister, Geoff Miller is holding a special edition of 'Say Hey Live' where we have the chance to say a proper goodbye to Andy. For those who don't know, Say Hey Live is a Livestream Geoff has been running for Night Church where he interviews members of the 7pm church about life in lockdown. This week, he will be streaming to the St Michael's Church Group on Facebook, eating burgers, wearing flannos and hearing from Andy & others. Tune in at 6pm this Saturday, make yourselves a burger for dinner and celebrate Andy and his long ministry to St Michael's.
Chapter Update
The Cathedral Chapter had their first meeting on 8th September to initiate the process of finding a replacement for our Senior Minister.

The Chapter were briefed on the process that Bishop Hayward and Archbishop Raffel consider should be followed. The next Chapter meeting will be on 22nd September.

Bishop Peter Hayward encourages us as a Parish to not be concerned if it takes until the middle of next year, as a break of some months is probably beneficial, following a long incumbency such as Sandy & Karyn’s 17 years of ministry.

The St. Michaels parishioners on Chapter are: Michelle Gajus-Read, Stacey Chapman, Peter Kell, Rob Thomas, Luke Thompson and Greg Engel.

Andy's Farewell
September 19 is not only Annual Thanksgiving Day, but Andy's farewell too! In order to celebrate all things Andy, we encourage you to cook his favourite meal- a His Boy Elroy cheeseburger. The recipe is as follows:
560g Wagu beef mince
8 slices American style cheese
4 brioche buns
Salt & pepper
To Serve
American Mustard
Butter
Ketchup
Pickles, sliced

To make the patties- roll the mince into 4 balls and flatten into a circle the width of the brioche buns. Season well with salt and pepper on each side, then place onto a high-temperature grill. Grill for 2 minutes, flip, then place 2 slices of cheese onto each patty to melt. Grill for another 2 minutes, then remove from the heat to rest.
To serve- toast the buns on the grill, then spread with butter and swirl ketchup and mustard on each side. Add a generous layer of pickles, then top with the patty and cheese. Serve with some seasoned hot chips and extra ketchup and mustard.
