Coastal Risk Management Plan Workshops

The coastline of the Town of Cambridge is a unique and precious asset that needs to be managed in the best way possible.

The Town is currently preparing a Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP) to plan for the future sustainability of the coastline and the buildings, parks and infrastructure located along it.

The CHRMAP will outline the best furture  management of coastal assets that are at risk of erosion and flooding.

A key component of creating a CHRMAP is hearing from the community about their values and preferred ways to lessen coastal hazard impacts. So now is your opportunity to work with the lead engineering consultants to identify what are the most important coastal assets to you and what the preferred level of protection should be.

We invite you and your networks to come along to either of the Community Workshops:
Wednesday 6 October 2021 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm;
or
Saturday 9 October 2021 from 10am to 1pm.

The workshops will be held at the Town of Cambridge Administration Centre, 1 Bold Park Drive, Floreat.

Alderbury Reserve Facilities Take Shape

Work is progressing on schedule with the new changerooms and toilet facilities at Alderbury Reserve, Floreat.

The steel framework was installed last week to create the shell of the building with the roof and brickwork to follow soon.

The project is scheduled to be at the 'lock up' stage by the end of November with completion set for January 2022.

The new venue will be a substantial upgrade on the facility that was constructed in the early 1960's.

Some of the many environmental design concepts include:
  • Optimum orientation of the building to control sun penetration
  • Use of south facing central skylights and vents to reduce artificial lighting costs.
  • Use of natural ventilation, lighting, heating and cooling to most areas;
  • Use of LED lighting throughout with motion sensor operation,
  • Heat reflective roof and wall colour surfaces.
  • Use of natural roof skylights for energy conservation,
  • Minimisation of heat loss or gain with insulation & verandah shading.
  • Elimination of gutters and downpipes.
  • Selection of appropriate low maintenance materials suitable for the situation.
  • Selection of low energy power equipment
  • Energy efficient lighting and communications.
  • Water minimisation devices.

The  building is expected to minimise overall maintenance and operating costs and enjoy an extended life for the local community.
