Civic Holidays - Remember to vote at Nov. 2nd, 2021

Asian Media Access has been part of voter mobilization effort, and we hope to utilize the "Civic Holidays" idea to better engage with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters. Civic Holidays are nonpartisan days of action that strengthen and celebrate our country’s democracy! Each holiday has different ways that YOU can get involved!

a. National Voter Registration Day - Sept. 28, 2021
Every year on the holiday, organizations such as nonprofits, campus groups, libraries, election offices, businesses, digital platforms, and many more participate in a coordinated day of action to register as many voters as possible.  
 
b. National Voter Education Week - October 4-8, 2021
National Voter Education Week will share resources in equipping new voters with the voter education tools they need to grow our democracy.
 
c. Vote Early Day - October 23, 2021
Vote Early Day will provide resources to start a grassroots event, share messages across social media, recruit poll workers, or get involved with larger events locally.  
 
d. Election Hero Day - November 1, 2021
Election Hero Day recognizes the important work and contributions of poll workers, election administrators, and clerks to ensure efficient and secure elections.  

Civic Holidays provide voters, particularly first-time voters, with steady engagement to ensure civic responsibility is immersed to people's minds, while also helping to minimize those administrative problems that can arise when people wait until the last minute to register, learn about what's on their ballot, find their voting location, and vote. Proactively informing voters about their options through civic holidays is a win-win for everyone.

GIT Taiwanese Film Week

DATE/TIME: October 1 - October 9, 2021
PLACE: Online at Asiania

The Global Taiwan Institute is very pleased to host the 2021 Taiwanese Film Week, GTI’s second annual virtual film festival. From October 1-9, GTI will feature a diverse selection of eight Taiwanese films and documentaries, as well as Q&A sessions with the directors of two selected films. All will be streamed for free on Asiania.

Note the viewings are limited only to the United States.
Register for each film that you want to view.
Some film(s) are limited by region.
Some film(s) have limits on the number of viewers.
All films are English-subtitled.

AMAJ People’s Movement Assembly - Reimagining Public Safety as Asian Americans

This past year, our communities have been engaged in conversations about how we keep each other safe. With the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police and the rise in anti-Asian violence, what does it look like for us to build a public safety system that truly keeps us all safe? Join us on October 2, from 12 - 4pm, for a conversation about reimagining public safety as Asian Americans. We will engage in discussions around our relationships with policing, the issues we face around keeping each other safe, and take an opportunity to reimagine what safe communities look like. We will also learn more about the opportunity in Minneapolis to vote for a new department of public safety. There will be art, food, and real conversations about building real systems of safety in our communities. Bring a friend! This event is organized by the Asian Minnesotan Alliance for Justice, a collection of Asian Minnesotan organizations fighting for solidarity and justice in Minnesota.

Fresh Traditions Fashion Show: Once Upon A Time

Center for Hmong Arts & Talent + Fresh Traditions presents a magical evening of Hmong fashion

Fresh Traditions is a nonprofit organization founded in 2006 by Kathy Mouachepao through the Center for Hmong Arts & Talent in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Fresh Traditions was created in the hopes of building a platform for Hmong designers to channel their creativity and inspire younger generations to create fresh and contemporary interpretations of our history and cultural aesthetics. Our programming nurtures and develops Hmong American artists from all over the country in fashion design and branding. Over the years, we have worked with about 100 Hmong designers and captivated over 6,000 people through our annual fashion shows.
