Island-Hopping Demo Showcases Payload Delivery and Sensing

Squishy Robotics' air deployment capabilities and our robots' customizable payloads were ideal innovations for a late-summer event in the Aloha State. Lead Mechatronics Engineer Douglas Hutchings spent six busy days at a demonstration sponsored by the Applied Research Lab at the University of Hawaii (ARL at UH). The 2021 Technology Incubation, Demonstration and Experimentation Support (TIDES) event was titled: “Human-machine teaming: Predictive autonomous cargo delivery supporting contested logistics in an island-hopping small team resupply scenario.” 
ARL at UH partnered with industry and relevant defense stakeholders to assess technology performance in field testing in an island and ocean environment that demonstrated the new and emerging technologies that can respond to the unique operational challenges of an island-based resupply operation.
“The event’s scenario of a hub-and-spoke resupply model was a perfect fit for our technology,” said Hutchings. “We provided rapidly deployable situational awareness and communications capabilities at the spoke to inform follow-on supporting personnel's actions once they arrived at the site. We also provided perimeter monitoring capabilities throughout the friendly force’s activities at the spoke.” Hutchings met and worked alongside of several new vendors and potential customers to establish new use case needs. “It was exciting to engage and work in these island delivery simulations where our technologies were well-suited to the many challenges of ground, air, and ocean operations.”

Launch Methane Study

Climate change requires immediate action. A report  by the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that cutting methane—the second most common greenhouse gas and the gas that accounts for approximately 20 percent of global emissions—is the strongest lever the world has to slow climate change over the next 25 years.

Dr. Alice Agogino and Squishy Robotics are launching a study to develop an innovative solution for increasing the number of methane inspections and the quality of recorded measurement data by using a hierarchical approach involving optimal rapid placement methods, multimodal sensing strategies, multiagent collaboration, and data analytics. 

We want to interview innovators and Oil & Gas industry experts to better understand the problems, challenges, and pain points with current solutions. If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact Professor Agogino.  

A.I. and Robotics: A Potent Pair to Fight Global Problems 

Squishy Robotics CEO and co-founder Dr. Alice Agogino was one of the panelists for the inaugural session of “AI for Good,” a year-long digital series of events exploring how robotics and artificial intelligence (A.I.) can help achieve the United Nation (UN)’s Sustainability Goals and improve conditions for humankind and our planet. This kick-off panel discussion, which was convened in Switzerland, was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and 38 UN sister agencies.
Robots that assist with crop growing and medical care along with unique A.I.-robotics teaming, such as the methane monitoring solution being developed by Squishy Robotics to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, were discussed by four engineering scientists (three also hold university positions); the panel was hosted by BBC Click presenter LJ Rich.
