Student Highlight | Meet Wyatt
In March 2020, Wyatt Turrentine was trying to make ends meet as a full-time waiter and machining student at Durham Tech. He lost his job due to COVID and was unemployed for five months before finding temp work.

Two scholarships from the Durham Tech Foundation gave him the opportunity to continue his education where he earned a CNC Certificate, a Basic Machining Certificate, and a CNC Diploma.

“I took Computer Integrated Machining courses because of how many job opportunities there are making very good money,” he said. “A lot of people in the field are nearing retirement and companies are always looking to bring in new people and even willing to train them. Thanks to this degree I could go almost anywhere in the world and have a job.”

In February, Wyatt was offered a full-time job with benefits as a machine operator at a manufacturer in Raleigh.

“I will always be grateful for Durham Tech because it helped change my life,” he said. “Before, I was working jobs I didn’t like, but I didn’t have much choice. Going back to school and getting my certificates and diploma have changed my life for the better. It’s given me and my fiancé better financial stability and made me happier overall.”
