PHYSICAL EDUCATION

PDST PE: School Support for 21/22
PDST PE School Support is open for applications for the school year 21/22.  We would love to work with your school and together we can explore priority PE strands, as well as other aspects of how PE is taught and physical literacy.  In-school support is available in a face to face or remote format.  Apply now by clicking here.
 
PDST PE: Fundamental Movement Skills Webinar (October 6th)
The PDST PE team are delighted to invite you to our upcoming live webinar, where we will further explore how we can develop physically literate children through the lens of fundamental movement skills. This 1 hour live webinar will highlight practical tools and strategies from the 'Move Well, Move Often' resource, that will enable you to embed the development of fundamental movement skills into your PE programme. This webinar takes place on 6th October from 4-5p.m.  Booking available here.


IPPEA: #BeActive European School Sports Day Webinar (September 15th) 
The Irish Primary PE Association, in association with the Education Centre Network, invites teachers to attend this European Sports Day focussed webinar on September 15th @ 7pm. The webinar will be packed with tips and ideas about how to run a successful Sports Day, including equipment, organisation, music, safety and a cooperative focus. ASF CALENDAR of Events for 21/22

(NEW) WALKWAY Challenges for 21/22
We look forward to sharing some NEW Walkway challenges with schools in October. The new challenges will promote learning about colours, shapes, time and flags as well as promoting numeracy and literacy. 

IMPORTANT - All ASF activities during 21/22 must comply with COVID-safety guidelines

#BeActive European Week of Sport (23-30 September) 
#BeActive, European Week of Sport, aims to promote sport and physical activity in countries across Europe.

#BeActive EDUCATION Nominees 
The #BeActive EDUCATION Award aims to demonstrate how education can encourage kids to #BeActive outside the typical sport/physical activity taking place in their normal school day. This may include additional activities, scheduling days outside of class that focus on sport, after-school activities and other creative solutions that build an active education environment.

CONGRATULATIONS to the following three schools that have been nominated, by Sport Ireland, as the Irish #BeActive EDUCATION representatives. The finalists will be decided by the EU, over the coming weeks, and invited to an awards ceremony later in the year. .

#BeActive WALKWAY Day (Friday, September 24th)
ASF and Get Ireland Walking encourage schools to get everyone 'outdoors and moving' and 'outdoors and learning' using their Active School Walkway on September 24th. Share your #BeActiveWalkwayDay photos/videos with @ActiveFlag @GetIreWalking, or by email to resources@activeschoolflag.ie (please include your school roll number in subject line), to be in with a chance to win an outdoor speaker for your school. 

#BeActive European Sports Day (Friday, September 24th)
European School Sports Day (ESSD) takes place this year on the 24th of September. ESSD is a pan-European initiative with the main goal to promote physical activity on international level and involve as many children, young people, schools and organisations as possible. Last year over 3,000,000 pupils took part across 9000 schools. Participate with your class or school by completing 120 minutes of any type of physical activity on the day.

ASF: FIND OUT MORE webinars 
This webinar is designed for PRIMARY schools/teachers that have not previously engaged with ASF and for schools that have allowed their ASF status lapse over a number of years. The webinar will explain the ASF process, discuss the challenges and the benefits and describe the support that ASF provides for participating schools. All are welcome to attend.

ASF: GETTING STARTED webinars 
These webinars are designed to support PRIMARY schools that have agreed, at a whole staff level, to work towards ASF during 21/22. Practical advice and supports will be given to help schools to get the ASF process up and running. The online sessions are tailored for different school types, which we hope will allow us to offer the best possible advice. But equally, teachers are welcome to join in on any of the sessions to suit their availability.

The online REGISTRATION facility for PRIMARY schools wishing to work towards/renew ASF during 21/22 will open on October 1st www.activeschoolflag.ie (Register) 

REGISTER Your School for ASF (Post Primary) 
For the past 3 years we have been working with pilot schools and a research team from the University of Limerick to design a new. whole-of-school,  ASF process for post primary schools (ASFPP). If your post primary school is interested in finding out more please email postprimarysupport@activeschoolflag.ie
