MORRISTOWN, IN - Violette Gerrish Orr, 96, passed away September 11, 2021, in Morristown, Indiana. She was born August 5, 1925, in Rockland, Maine, to Eula and Harold Gerrish, the fourth of six children.

She attended Rockland High School and earned a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Gordon College in 1947. She married the Rev. Daniel E. Orr in 1948. Together they served American Baptist churches in New England, New York, and Nevada. While in Nevada, she also taught elementary school, where most of her students were children of migrant workers. She was a gifted teacher, leading Bible studies for both children and adults throughout her life. She published several articles in "The Upper Room," a well-known devotional periodical. She was an accomplished cook and enjoyed puzzles, games, reading, knitting, and quilting.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel; her brothers, Harold and Vernon; and her sisters, Mary and Beverly. She is survived by her son, Thomas Orr (wife Theresa Garcia); her daughters, Mary Gordon (husband James), and Elizabeth Toner; her brother, Wayne Gerrish; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021, 11 a.m. at Essex Street Baptist Church, 82 Essex Street, Bangor, ME, with interment at Maple Grove Cemetery.
