“Sometimes the most ordinary things could be made extraordinary simply by doing them with the right people.”
- Elizabeth Green
Greetings Laurel Hall Families!
Two ordinary events that happened this week took on a much more significant meaning. Generally, a high school Information night and a football jamboree would otherwise be two in a series of many ordinary LHS events. These two, however, were far from ordinary. In fact, they were electrifying with good reason. First, they were well-organized, well attended, and took a team effort. Secondly, this was the first time that two “live, on-campus” events of this magnitude have occurred in the same week since March of 2020.
Both, LHS events are steeped in tradition; both occur each autumn. Unfortunately, neither were allowed to occur last school year. This year, we moved our annual high school information night outdoors to the quad for an open-air added layer of protection against COVID. The high school representatives that visited were so impressed with this new format that we will continue to hold the event outdoors every year.
Two days later, we followed the high school information night with the fall football jamboree, which is the middle school equivalent of a high school passing league tournament. Four schools participated. The number of attendees in the audience was impressive; the feeling of good cheer was infectious. Furthermore, LHS was arguably the most skilled team on the field!
Thank you for your patience with the adjustments we continue to make for the sake of improvement. I especially want to thank you for cooperation and patience with the ever-evolving student drop-off and pick-up process. Thank you for the way your children conduct themselves each week during COVID testing, as well. They have been great! Our third week of testing went well and as of today, all results are negative.
School is in full swing. Routines are in place, and there is nothing better. The month of October is always exciting. Homecoming week begins Monday, October 18th. Spirit week culminates on Friday the 22nd with the homecoming rally, festival, and football game. Mrs. Bonnie Koch will be honored on homecoming day for her years of brilliant service to the children of Laurel Hall School. On that day, the activities begin at 1:00 p.m. with our pep rally. The rally is followed by the festival in the parking lot at 2:00 p.m. The homecoming football game commences at 3:30 p.m. There are even rumors flying about a homecoming event that involves the principal and the pastor becoming drenched in water. No one is quite sure what this is all about. You’ll just have to join us at homecoming to find out!
Best,
Mr. G.
