Public Meetings on Forest-Related Climate Action in Vermont

September 20 & 21

What actions can we take in Vermont to improve forest health and resilience in the face of our climate crisis?

It’s time to think outside the box. Please join the conversation.

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Climate Council is holding stakeholder meetings for forest landowners, forest products industries, and conservation organizations online next week to share and receive public input on forest-related strategies within their draft Climate Action Plan.

You’ll find details and links to the meetings below.

Healthy, intact family forests are essential for building ecological resilience in a rapidly changing climate. Family forest owners know and love their forests and bring an important perspective to the table.

  • What does a healthy working landscape look like in the 21st century and beyond?

  • How can we improve atmospheric carbon sequestration and storage, water quality, wildlife species richness, and flood and drought resilience?

  • How should we amend the Use Value Appraisal (Current Use) Program to better address climate change?

  • Can we make way for more wild forests in Vermont’s working landscape?

  • How can family forests be involved in tangible, specific, effective ways?

  • What are the key roles of industry, government, and private landowners in moving us forward?

The Vermont Climate Council (VCC) will be holding two stakeholder meetings via Zoom. Both are public meetings, and you may attend either or both.
The VCC wants your feedback, specifically:

  • Are they on the right track with their approaches?

  • What key strategies or ideas are they missing?

  • What strategies or ideas are of concern to you?

  • And, how would you improve them to address you concerns?
