In the last couple of weeks of August we said good bye to several partners and family members and flew back to Haiti, feeling renewed and thankful, as we always do, to resume the work we do together there. Part of the goodbyes this year were to send Paul and Claire and Jonah off to Germany where Paul was being deployed for three years with the Air Force as an air traffic controller.
On September 6 they flew to Frankfurt and began searching for housing near Ramstein Airforce Base. On the 8th he noticed he was having trouble finding words and by the ninth could not speak. Admitted to the hospital, a brain lesion was found and a craniotomy for an abcess was done on Sunday, the 12th. Marcia and Claire's Mom, Leslie, flew to Germany to be with them where Paul is now recovering in the ICU at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
We simply wanted to let you know what was happening with our family. Paul seems to have good brain function but total expressive phasia (cannot speak) yet and some minimal weakness on the right side of his body. He will be receiving Speech, Ot and PT rehab services as needed in a location yet to be determined over the next few weeks. We appreciate your prayers for them as things unfold. We put our hope and trust in our loving and powerful God who can and does do more than we can ask or imagine and sees so much more than we ever can. We anticipate his healing and work in this situation too. Thanks for pouring our your love and support on all of us and for praying.
Our Prayers are for:
--healing and return of speech for Paul
--strength and peace for Claire
--peace for little Jonah
--growth of faith and trust for all of us through this
