Join us for the Blessing of the Backpacks at both services!
Services this Sunday September 19
THE 9 AM SERVICE
is a 30-minute outdoor service, good for kids and family but open to all.
THE 10 AM SERVICE
is a 45-minute "traditional" service with organ and choir. Please remember to wear a mask throughout the service. Also, we will be baptizing Maximilian Dodia at this Sunday's service!
THE 5 PM SERVICE (NEW)
is a quiet, non-Eucharistic service and a great way to end (and start) the week. It lasts 25-30 minutes, includes silence, "centering prayer" along with prayers both familiar and new, and a chance to reflect quietly to yourselves (or if you wish, aloud) on the Gospel reading for the day. Eucharist will be available following for those who wish. Try it for something different. You can even go *in addition to* the morning services if you wish. Service will be indoors, distanced and masked.
Comings and Goings
This weekend at the 10:30 am service we'll say a farewell prayer for longstanding parishioners Uma and Ajit Banerjee, who will be moving full-time to their home in Florida.
Your Messenger should have arrived in the mail by now, but you can also view it online by clicking the Messenger masthead above.  Our masking and Covid protocols for fall at St. James are all explained in the opening letter.
Coffee Hours Resume This Sunday
Coffee hour this Sunday will take place outside under the tent, and will be a modest spread, to start. Join us for some good (and safe) food and fellowship. A sign-up sheet will be available next week for those who'd like to host.
Sunday School Resumes This Sunday
Sunday school for PreK- 4th Grade takes place under the tent this Sunday between services (9:45-10:15). Please have your kids wear masks. For all the great programs for other grades--5th&6th graders, junior high and senior high--see Deacon Susie's weekly email (latest version here)
New Features on the St. James App, like Direct Sign-ups
Our phone app now allows you to sign up for a group, from one of our food ministries to our Sunday Bible reading group, without having to go through the office or a staff member. You just click on the group you want to join, and you'll immediately start receiving communications about that group. You can also update your profile, add your picture (from the app itself), and check your giving record. Download the app by taking a picture of the QR code. It helps us a lot!
Adult Bible Read-Through Starts THIS Sunday
This Sunday's Readings: Genesis 1-21
Sunday mornings starting September 19, 9:45-10:15 am in the Isom Room, the grown-ups will meet for our weekly Bible reading lesson and check-in. Anyone is welcome to drop in any time to learn a little bit about the Old and New Testaments. The year's schedule is here, though join the group if you want more timely updates as we go. Remote participants see the link below (under "Useful links" or in your email to the group).
Save the Date: Father Sam from the NY Haiti Project
Father Sam Owen will be back at St. James on Sunday October 10 at both services to talk about recent developments in Haiti and the impact on the Episcopal Community we support. Did you know that the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti is connected to the Episcopal Diocese of NY? We're even in the same Ecclesiastical Province.
Next Run is Sunday September 26 at 6:30 AM
Anyone can click here to directly donate items whether or not you can attend on the 26th.
Midnight Run is a ministry to the homeless in New York City. A typical "run" happens on Sunday morning before Church, leaving around 7:30 am and returning by 10:30/11:00 am. Volunteers prepare food and basic necessities, and drive in teams down to a designated location on the Lower East or Upper West side. Families are welcome to participate in this ministry, as with all our food ministries.
Upcoming Breakfast Runs: Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 21
Upcoming Night Run: Dec. 4
