1. Women's Budget Group AGM

It's been an exciting year for Women's Budget Group, as we've launched three new projects promoting our vision of a sustainable, caring and gender-equal economy. Join us at our AGM to find out more and learn about our exciting plans ahead. This is a hybrid event and you can indicate whether you would like to join us remotely via Zoom or in-person via Eventbrite. Register here.

2. Local Data Project: START (Statistics To Achieve Real Transformation) Programme
Thursday 23rd September | Wednesday 6th October | 10:30 - 12:30pm / 12:30pm - 2:30pm 

Our next series of Local Data Project workshops, the START programme, is launching in September, designed to introduce you to key tools which you can use to uncover inequality in your local area. This is a beginner level programme and no previous experience of data, statistics or maths is necessary. You can find out more details and register here. 

3.  Revitalising local communities across the UK - for people and planet.

Mega survey of UK parents shows that childcare is failing families
A survey of over 20,000 parents in the UK, run by Mumsnet in partnership with a coalition of parenting and campaigning groups including Women’s Budget Group, offers stark and sobering insights into the catastrophic impacts of childcare costs on the lives of parents – particularly mothers – and children.

Government plan to remove the £20 uplift to Universal Credit is out of step with young Conservative voters
Polling carried out by Survation for six women’s organisations: Close the Gap, Engender, Fawcett Society, Northern Ireland Women’s Budget Group,  Women’s Budget Group, and Women’s Equality Network Wales  highlights the overwhelming support from young people (aged 18-30) for the Government to invest in social infrastructure, with latest polling showing that 58% Conservative voters want to see investment in Social Security system.

How has self-employment changed since the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK? 
As part of a collaborative project between WBG and Professor Tracey WarrenDr Luis D. Torres and Annegreet Veeken (Nottingham Business School) tracking the impact of the pandemic on men's and women's working lives, we have published a new paper exploring how self-employment has changed since the pandemic.

We published a new briefing exploring the impact of the pandemic for young women on low income households, in collaboration with Close the Gap, Engender, Fawcett Society, Northern Ireland Women’s Budget Group, and Women’s Equality Network Wales.

Post-pandemic aspirations: Young people call on the government to invest to secure a better future
Joint polling conducted by leading women's organisations show that 18-30 year olds across the UK found high levels of support for investment in the benefit system, social care, green initiatives, and affordable housing.

Housing Is Less Affordable Than Ever For Young Women
Our research on the gender housing gap has been reported by Refinery 29, highlighting the worrying lack of affordability of housing for women across the country.

The Big Issue reports on the potential devastating impacts of the plans to cut Universal Credit this October, writing an open letter to the Prime Minister to reconsider the planned cut.

Universal credit: 100 civil society groups urge Boris Johnson to abandon benefit cut
A coalition of 100 groups has urged Boris Johnson to abandon the looming cut to universal credit – claiming it will “fundamentally undermine” his stated mission to address inequality, as reported by The Independent. 

SECURITY FOR EVERYONE: THE PUBLIC CASE FOR NON-MEANS-TESTED BENEFITS
The Fabian Society has recently published a report examining the future of non-means-tested benefits for working-age adults and children, with findings highlighting that following the Covid-19 pandemic, there is new interest amongst the public in improving payments when people stop working.

This webinar organised by Maternity Action will discuss widespread poor practices and errors of law made by NHS Trusts in implementing the NHS charging regulations for overseas visitors in England. Poor Trust practice has a significant impact on women accessing maternity care and contributes to worsening mental health and poor health outcomes for migrant women and children. PES Women Gender Equality Network "Progressive Champions for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Europe: Challenges & Opportunities in 2021 and Beyond"
