DUT DEEPENS ITS AFRICAN FOOTPRINT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) and the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD) in Nigeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which forms part of DUT’s ENVISION2030 that is to build mutually beneficial partnerships. The virtual signing ceremony included the orientation of DUT Postgraduate students from the Faculty of Management Sciences.

Facilitating the proceedings of the event was Dr Lavern Samuels, the Director of International Education and Partnerships at the DUT. In his opening address, Dr Samuels highlighted that it was a wonderful occasion for DUT to celebrate as it represents a number of things in the life of the University.

DUT’S 2021 ANNUAL STEVE BIKO SEMINAR FOCUSES ON RACISM, TRIBALISM AND VIOLENCE: THE INCOMPLETE DECOLONIAL PROJECT

The Durban University of Technology in collaboration with the UMTAPO Centre hosted the 2021 Annual Steve Biko Seminar on Thursday, 9 September 2021, via Microsoft Teams.

UMTAPO is a social justice non-profit organisation holistically engaged in promoting anti-racism, anti-sexism, anti-corruption, peace and socio-economic justice through popular education. Its philosophical framework is based on an ethical African humanism (Ubuntu).

RADLA HOSTS WORKSHOP ON WRITING PUBLIC OPINION ARTICLES ON VARIOUS MEDIA PLATFORMS

The Research and Doctoral Leadership Academy (RADLA) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently hosted a workshop to provide skills on Writing Public Opinion Articles on Various Media Platforms.

The workshop was conducted by Dr Imraan Buccus, a Post-Doctoral Fellow at DUT Gender Justice, Health and Human Development and a Senior Research Associate at the Auwal Socio-Economic Research Institute (ASRI). He is a columnist for the Daily Maverick and New Frame and is often called upon by television and radio stations to offer political analysis.

DUT’S DR SABIU IS ECSTATIC TO BE PART OF THE FUTURE PROFESSORS PROGRAMME

Last month, on 24 August 2021, the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Dr Saheed Sabiu was successfully notified by the Department of Higher Education and Higher Training (DHET), that he was appointed as a participant into the Future Professors Programme (FPP).

The FPP is a competitive and selective programme of the DHET to prepare promising early career academics to become a new cohort of South African professors across disciplines. It is in the second year of implementing the FPP, following the submission of nominations by 26 universities for the 2021/2022 Cohort 1 of the second phase of the FFP.
