Our Why Creativity Matters Now conversations have been in full swing these past two weeks, and it’s been absolutely brilliant to hear from so many inspirational speakers and attendees. If you’ve missed any of the sessions, each of the recordings and notes from the sessions are available on our Stories and Events pages.

We want to encourage as many of you as possible to come to the final sessions next week.

1.Tuesday 19th October, 1.30pm (60 mins) - Using arts and cultural partners in your curriculum: Entitlement vs Enrichment - this conversation will look at how to find a balance between meeting the aims of the curriculum and providing exciting and engaging experiences for pupils with a presentation from Mary Myatt.

2. 3.30pm, Thursday 21st October (90 mins) - Cross sector working - Top Tips to make things work brilliantly! - come and share with arts organisations what needs to be in place from your point of view. Help us write a brilliant, useful list of things to make things work really well for everyone.

3. 10:30am, Friday 22nd October (45 minutes) - Next steps, a guided planning session with Q and A. Jenny and Amy will support schools to identify how arts & cultural partners can help to achieve curriculum goals and future actions. The aim is that you’ll leave this session with a clear idea of what to do next and the contacts to make it happen!

Early Years & KS1

During our Why Creativity Matters NOW conversations, we asked 'how can engaging in performances and events build community for EY & KS1. On Tuesday 12th October, we welcomed speakers Becky Stroud from Beck Primary School, Polly Ives of Concerteenies, Jane Cooper artist in residence at Arbourthorne, Vanessa Langley Headteacher at Arbourthorne Primary, Julie Brearley from FACES and Kate Dudley SCC to share case studies.

Concerteenies grew out of a desire to connect inspirational musicians with children aged 0-7 and their adults.

Polly is currently visiting around 30 Sheffield nurseries and infant schools in preparation for the children's concert of Izzy Gizmo. This book by Pip Jones and Sara Ogilvie has been set to music by Paul Rissmann, animator Vic Craven and will be performed by Ensemble 360 and narrator Polly. There are spaces for the Sheffield schools' and family concerts as well as launching on a UK tour.

Concerteenies has just launched it's November-December concert series for 0-5 year olds and their families. With a new series at Cutlery Works, a relaxation series at Whirlow Spirituality Centre and Greystones Gigs, the events include a jam-packed programme of classical, jazz, folk, popular music from around the world, performed by internationally renowned and local well-loved musicians. There will also be 6 days of Christmas events including a Christmas Carol singalong led by Polly Ives and Fraser Wilson.

50 Things Sheffield

50 Things to Do Before You’re Five is a free to download app and website which provide families with ideas for activities to do together. The 50 Things activities are based on research and theoretical understanding of how children learn. More importantly perhaps, they are low/no cost, accessible to every child aged 0 to 5 across the city, and most important of all, they are great fun!!
