The European Immunization Agenda 2030 (EIA2030)

Countries of the WHO European Region adopt new regional immunization agenda for coming decade

14 September 2021 - An ambitious strategy to ensure equitable and life-long protection from vaccine-preventable diseases was adopted by the 71st session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe.

A bottom-up approach to build back better
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on health systems, including in the area of routine vaccinations. EIA2030 was formulated through a consultative process involving Member States and partners to build forward stronger, by creating more resilient immunization systems and structures. It is based on lessons learned and the key pillars of immunization equity, life-course immunization and tailored local solutions that address vaccination demand and acceptance in the population. EIA2030 is one of the flagship initiatives of the European Programme of Work, 2020–2025 – “United Action for Better Health in Europe”. Read more

Statement – WHO/Europe: stagnating COVID-19 vaccination uptake requires urgent action

Copenhagen, 30 August 2021, Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe

The epidemiological picture in the WHO European Region, comprising 53 countries, is mixed. We now have 64 million confirmed cases and 1.3 million deaths. Thirty-three Member States report a greater than 10% increase in 14-day case incidence. This high transmission is deeply worrying – particularly in the light of low vaccination uptake in priority populations in a number of countries.

COVID-19 vaccine uptake monitoring

WHO/Europe and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) launched joint monitoring of COVID-19 vaccine uptake in the Region in January 2020. This is intended to guide development and, if needed, revision of national vaccination strategies by monitoring: access to COVID-19 vaccination, efficiency of vaccination campaigns and trends within the region.
