Principal's Message

Dear Sea Lion Families,

Thank you for participating in the McGaugh School Site Council Election. Julie McMahon & Amber Nichols have been elected to serve a two-year term on the SSC.  I am looking forward to the partnership and know these two parents will represent the parent voice on our campus very well.

As you are aware, there are quite a few opportunities for parents to get involved and volunteer here at McGaugh. PTA and Project Seek are two well-known opportunities. However, there are other opportunities.

For example, we currently need a parent to serve on the District-level English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). The District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) is an advisory group that reviews and comments on key aspects of our district's English Learner program, such as reclassification and outreach efforts to parents of English Learners. If you are interested in serving on the DELAC team, please send Wendy Wood a quick email at wwood@losal.org. Thank you again.

As we head into the fall season, I want to take a moment to revisit a few classroom food and treat protocols.  These have helped us maintain a safe learning environment by limiting the exposure and spread of COVID-19 on campus.

Please know:

  • Only store-bought or restaurant-bought individually packaged snacks/food are allowable and may be distributed to students as birthday treats, holiday celebrations, and end-of-year activities.
  • Items made or packaged at home or in the classroom are not allowable.
  • Snacks/food must be purchased as individually packaged items, except for whole fruit. Whole fruit like an apple, a banana, or even a small bunch of grapes is allowable.

On the Horizon :

Mon. (9/20) |Seek Skate Night

Help! Your donations are needed for our Silent Auction

The annual McGaugh Silent Auction is quickly approaching and we need donations!

Have season tickets to a sporting event or theatre? Vacation Home? Business connection that wants to help out a 501(c)(3) non-profit? Unused gift cards from places you don’t really go to? We will take them and make money to give back to our school and kids! Please ask your favorite restaurants while there or pass along any info you have that many we willing to donate to.

Click here for the donation form, stop by the front office or contact Steve Miller (socalstevemiller@gmail.com) anytime. You can also make a monetary donation, create a basket or donate items in your family name. Donations can be left in the front office or call Steve to arrange for pickup.

Remember, the carnival and silent auction are PTA’s largest fundraisers of the year. PTA has paid for various educational programs like PEACE Week and International Culture Club, school field trips, window shades and the new marquee, just to name a few things. Community support has been vital to the success of our auctions in the past so let’s keep it going!

Contact Silent Auction Chair: Steve Miller 562-370-5551 (socalstevemiller@gmail.com) with any questions or to arrange a pickup.

Meet McGaugh’s Enrichment Teachers and Learn About our Programs!

Meet McGaugh’s Enrichment Teachers and Learn About our Programs!

Please take a minute to “meet” the amazing Project SEEK funded programs and teachers who make it all possible!
Visit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WHlL8GjcPsZu99xUwmRBCd5idsadHeIc/view or Snap the QR Code.

The smiling faces in this video need your help!  Project SEEK is McGaugh's non-profit organization that raises money to fund our art lab, innovation/STEM lab and media center.  We fund three teachers' salaries and all the supplies for these labs to enrich the education of every McGaugh student. Research shows that art, innovation and media education encourage problem solving, creativity, and a growth mindset in all subject areas.

Please consider volunteering for Project SEEK!
Project SEEK needs your expertise for the following role:

After-School Assembly Chair - In this role, you will solicit organizations to perform a show in the fall and spring during parent conferences.  You will coordinate with the performers, make a flyer for distribution and collect payment (with help from Project SEEK officers).  You will need to be present during the performances.

If this roles seem like the perfect way for you to contribute to your child's art, innovation and media education, please contact me, Claudia Vecchio Wille at president@projectseek.org, 917-547-0035. Even if you're not sure, but you would like to help, please contact me or look for me around school. Thank you for your time and continued support!

Sincerely,
Claudia Vecchio Wille
