Membership report The membership now stands at 45, a small increase on last year.
Chair’s report FOSGC raises money mainly in two ways: through activities and through merchandise. Because of Covid the activities have been all but impossible, although some events have still taken place on zoom, and the garden party had been the first event in person again and had been very successful. Other fundraising activities had also been re-instated: the postponed visit from the Cambridge Arts group, the textile group led by Margaret and a well attended concert by CVC, as well as some generous donations had all brought some unexpected income in the last two months. The fundraising events will return with renewed vigour in 2022, when some more of the raised funds will be directed to the main plan for the enhancement of St Giles’ once again, rather than all the monies raised being absorbed into the windows alone. Richard C proposed that we start applying for grants for the more interesting windows now, as these are more likely to attract funding. Geoff thanked Richard for dealing with the grant applications during this difficult time, an unnoticed but time-consuming task. We then discussed whether to try and find donors for the individual Saints’ windows or to ask more generally for donations of specific amounts for these. It was decided to leave a final decision to the trustees who will report back in due course. Emma was warmly thanked for all the work she has done for FOSGC over the last year.
Treasurer’s report Geoff had sent out the accounts before the meeting. A payment of £15000 received from English Heritage at the end of the year had helped to make them look healthier than they had done for most of the year. Adoption of the accounts was proposed by Arthur and seconded by Stella. Geoff was thanked very much for the careful way in which he keeps the accounts.
Re-election of Trustees All trustees were happy to be elected for another year.
AOB The next Friends outing will be on 26th October when, amongst others, we will visit two former bishops palaces (Adlington and Croydon). A detailed time table will follow soon.
Margaret will organise a series of ’Friday night is music night’ evenings, the first of which will be a jazz evening using John Jarvis’ collection of jazz records. Again, further derails nearer the time.
Emma proposed that we appoint a subcommittee to organise social events. The next trustee meeting will look at this proposal.
Date. The date for the next trustee meeting had already been decided and will be on the 23rd September, 7pm on zoom.
The meeting closed with Emma thanking us all for being virtually present at the AGM.
