RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION

 
Project title: Anishinaabe Mikinak Kinamakamik: An Indigenous-led strengths-based inquiry of Turtle Lodge as an innovative center for Indigenous education, wellness, and flourishing.

To advance a joint 5-year project led by Turtle Lodge International Center for Indigenous Education and Wellness (http://www.turtlelodge.org/about/) along with Dr. Andrew Hatala in Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, we are seeking the services of an experienced Research Associate in the area of qualitative and community-led health research focussing on the exploration of several innovative community health and wellness initiatives facilitated by and held within Turtle Lodge at Sagkeeng First Nations.

* Start date: ASAP
* Hours/week: 15-35 (Full time preferred)
* Remuneration is dependent on education and experience
* Candidates self-identifying as Indigenous will be preferred


Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required:

* In process of obtaining or completion of a graduate level degree in social or medical sciences (PhD level preferred);

* Computer literacy -- MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint;

* Experience with community-based qualitative research projects, including data collection, analysis and writing of reports and manuscripts;

* Experience with Indigenous community engagement and Indigenous-led research;

* Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team setting.

List of Representative Duties:

* Assist in the generation and analysis of qualitative data;

* Attend, participate in, take notes at team and project-related meetings;

* Be available to travel to Turtle Lodge and various surrounding communities for research activities and gatherings;

* Conduct literature searches and compile literature reviews;

* Create and maintain databases to organize project related information;

* Develop and apply basic computer programming techniques to analyze data;

* Assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication and reports based on community needs.

* Undertake coordination of new research projects as they develop.

* Independently coordinate all aspects of the research.

* Take a lead in core research functions with permission and guidance from community partner.

* Work collaboratively with Project Investigators to develop publication from research projects.
