2021 FALL FESTIVAL
UPDATE FROM THE MISSIONS COMMITTEE
Due to the restrictions set by Dallas County and the number of Covid cases being reported on a daily basis, the Missions Committee decided that we must cancel our Fall Festival activities this year set for October 16-17. We are so sad this is happening again, but the safety of our folks, as well as our visitors, has to be considered first.
At this time, we are hopeful that the Live Auction items can be offered in another way. We are working on those details and will let everyone know as soon as we can.
Did You Know..........Gifts to World Communion Sunday fund graduate racial-ethnic World Communion Scholarships, with at least one-half of the annual amount reserved for ministries beyond the United States. Donations also provide for undergraduate U.S. Ethnic Scholarship and Ethnic In-Service Training programs.
Happy Feet provides over 100 pairs of shoes to children in Duncanville Independent School District!
A $50.00 donation will provide a new pair of shoes and socks for a child.
Happy Feet will take place on November 20th at Famous Footwear in Midlothian
from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Thank you for your continued support of this mission.
Note from Pastor Abril
If you have been unable to attend church recently you have not had the opportunity to share your thoughts about FUMCD'S Core Values. Click below to complete the online form, or call the Church office and we'll record your choices over the phone! (972-298-6121)
Contact Bridget@FUMCD.com if you are interested in bringing your car or truck and passing out candy to our neighbors on Halloween, Sunday, October 31. We will have the lot open for you to park your vehicles until 4:00 and then we will close it to traffic. Children will Trunk or Treat from 4:30 to approximately 5:30.
This year we ask that participants not include games at their vehicles which require children to touch items which have been touched by other participants. We are doing our best to make this a COVID safe event while including all of the fun of Trick or Treating (costumes and wrapped candy).
You may also donate individually wrapped candy by bringing it to the Narthex on Sunday mornings.

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.” Matthew 25:1-5
Weddings are thought of as joyous occasions, and they should be. They are the joining together of a bride and groom for the start of a new life together. We may not fully understand what leads each one to form this bond, but each partner needs to share a belief, a “faith” that this union is meant to be, meant to last.
In the parable of the ten virgins, Jesus is the bridegroom and the Church is the bride. We anticipate the perfect union when He comes again. Of course, we who are the church are not perfect and neither is the world we live in. Thankfully, we know that this imperfection is not meant to last, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35
We might think of the oil in the lamps as the Holy Spirit which gives us spiritual insight. The Holy Spirit also motivates us to be good stewards by serving and sharing with one another. Reading the word of God, searching ourselves and asking the Holy Spirit for comprehension (and often forgiveness) is integral to keeping our lamps burning. But we also need to be alert and active refilling the “oil in our lamps” unlike the five virgins who were sleeping.
How does the church help us in this? It helps by bringing a body of faithful believers together for worship, praise and edification of His word. As active members of the church, we must be willing to share the light of our lamps, actively giving our time, talent and treasures.
Isn’t it wonderful that we can be refilled every time we sit with God’s word?
Isn’t it wonderful that we can be refilled with the Holy Spirit when we call upon the Lord?
Isn’t it wonderful that we can be refilled by sharing our Light and God’s Love with each other?
“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet” Luke 12:35
Dear Lord, Thank You for your word and for the Holy Spirit which fuels our lamps. Help us to keep our lamps filled with oil and us ready for the bridegroom’s coming. Amen
