WORLD OCEAN JOURNAL is a digital magazine on ocean culture and solutions to today’s ocean issues. Each volume includes essays, articles, interviews, art, exhibits, and performances profiling the vital impacts of the ocean on our lives. The theme of our most recent issue is solutions and represents part two of the two-part Journal series. In part one we began to assemble and profile many initiatives and projects that best express a forward-looking alternative perspective and plan of action. We discovered that one issue was not enough to describe the many new ideas and processes that are coming on line as revolutionary steps, each perhaps small in itself, but collectively representing a wave of ingenuity and determination that must command our awareness, financial investment, and public and private engagement from this day forward.
Every concept described in this issue is making waves, and every one involved—the entrepreneurs; the innovators; the inventors; the impact financiers and investors in transformational enterprise; the research scientists and oceanographers; the marine educators and proponents of ocean literacy; the determined bureaucrats and politicians; and the growing number of Citizens of the Ocean worldwide—are wave makers too. Thanks to all who are celebrated here, for their energy and impact for the future of our ocean world. Our hope is that each of them will promote their inclusion in this issue, and bolster the other programs and projects working toward a more sustainable ocean future.

WORLD OCEAN RADIO:
12 YEARS ON THE AIR
Twelve years ago, World Ocean Radio was launched on WERU-FM, 89.9 Community Radio in Blue Hill, Maine, with the encouragement of the station managers. In August we broadcast our 600th edition, still on WERU, but amplified by more than 60 stations, online outlets across the United States, in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong, down both coasts of Africa on internet radio, as a subscription podcast, and as a feature posted to social media worldwide; it can be reasonably estimated that World Ocean Radio can reach more than one million listeners inextricably connected by the sea.
World Ocean Radio is a weekly audio feature for web and podcast listeners, and for worldwide distribution through college and community radio stations and partners. Presented by longtime host Peter Neill, World Ocean Radio offers a unique perspective on important and relevant ocean issues. If you're not yet listening, World Ocean Radio is available for RSS feed and syndicated use at no cost. Find us on iTunes or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
