Hi everyone

A slight delay getting this newsletter out due to the various changes Covid has placed on us.

In particular, Covid has meant that Traveler Series #5 is postponed to a new date: 6 -7 November. However, this unplanned break has allowed things to really start happening in the South Island with a South Island championships event now entering the E5.9 calendar.

As well, there a number of other regatas being held by various clubs in the lower North Island over summer which are likely to attract strong E5.9 fleets.

In this issue:
  • Interesting happenings
  • Traveller Series #5 update
  • Summer Regatta Schedule
  • Bucklands Beach photo shoot
  • For Sale etc
If you have any thing that you would like included in the newsletter such as for sale or an article from local events please let us know and we will do our best to get it included.

Interesting Happenings

Boat movements
We welcome Seamus Tredinnick who is the new owner of Magpie. This means that Magpie has moved from Napier to Christchurch. Magpie bolsters the strong and active E5.9 fleet in Christchurch and complements other South Island E5.9s based in Dunedin and the Tasman region

While Napier loses Magpie, the Napier fleet picks up a new boat with Animals Crackers coming out of racing retirement and heading to Napier. Animal Crackers has been brought by the Plowman Team who are currently campaigning Shock Treatment
Traveller Series #5 - Sandspit 6 - 7 November

Due to Covid, Traveller Series #5 at Sandspit has been postponed from the September date to 6 - 7 November.

Moving to early November provides the best opportunity and timeline for a move back to Level 2 which will allow the regatta to proceed. As well, the November date avoids any significant clashes with some of the main summer season sailing events, such as the Coastal Classic that are scheduled to take place in October

The E5.9 Association and Sandspit Yacht club will follow the YNZ L2 regatta guidelines and full Regatta Info, Sailing Instruction and NOR will be up on the website as the details are finalised.

Summer E5.9 regattas
This year, we have a number of summer regattas hosted by various yacht clubs that will have E5.9 fleets competing including the E5.9 South Island Championship at Lake Aviemore.

While entries etc will be handled by each yacht club, if you are planning on competing at any of these regattas, please let the relevant E5.9 contact know. This will allow the association to liaise and arrange class starts, launching, parking logistics etc. We'll also put you on the regatta communication list to keep you updated.

The website has been updated to include this regatta info.
