Work starts on new Penkford School

Construction of a new, fit-for-purpose building for a local special school is now underway here in Newton-le-Willows.

Staff and pupils from Penkford School recently paid a visit to the site, which is on the former Red Bank Education Unit, to see the progress for themselves.

When complete, the new school building will offer a therapeutic learning environment, with new playing field, sports pitch and car park.

Race for Life comes to Haydock Racecourse in just less than two weeks - and there's still time to be part of it. The event, which raises money for Cancer Research UK, takes place on Sunday, October 17.
