The latest students to come and build their guitars with me were from Canada. Their class was actually scheduled for last year but had to be cancelled due to the border being closed to non essential travel. I think building guitars is very essential but the powers that be didn't see it that way.  Judging by their smiling faces I think it was worth the wait. We had a great 6 days last week building these beautiful guitars.

The promo offer on two brand new online courses at O'Brien Guitars is ending soon: Setup and Repair with luthier Greg Maxwell and Repair and Restoration with Robert O'Brien.
Doing repair work requires a different skill set than building an instrument. That is why Greg and I have put together these courses that specifically address the skills needed to do quality repair and restoration work. Over the course of more than a year we documented several instruments that came across our benches. Some only needed a simple setup but others required a complete restoration.
In these courses we show how to evaluate an instrument when it comes into the shop and decide what needs to be done, develop a plan of attack for the work needed and then how to execute the repair, be it structural or cosmetic. I am sure you will pick up a few tricks along the way as Greg and I show how we do repairs and setups on a variety of instruments.
Happy Building!
