November Newsletter

Thank you to all of the more than 1,000 (!) teachers  that completed the TREC 2021 Teacher Survey. We have already shared preliminary findings at the October TREC Advisory Board meeting, a PD Provider Stakeholder Meeting, and an Early Childhood Stakeholder Meeting. We plan to share a report of overall findings next week. Then in December, we will share an executive summary including all of the data--with over 1,000 responses it will take us some time to analyze all of the open-ended responses.

A key takeaway for me, is that despite the immeasurable challenges teachers are facing, the large majority of teachers responded that they are satisfied
with their work as a teacher. Yet, many of these same teachers have a number of concerns about teaching, including how COVID-19 is impacting their teaching as well as their own health and wellbeing. In Elena Aguilar's book Onward, the chapter for November focuses on Taking Care of Yourself. This is hard as an educator, but I hope you can prioritize self-care for one hour, one day, one week, or the whole month! Here's a great TREC On-Demand Webinar, if you're looking for a starting point or reminder: Stress Strategies for the Educator and the Classroom.

Please keep reading to learn more about the TREC Webinar on November, 16th from 4:00 - 5:30:  Supporting Transgender Students in Your Classroom Panel, the TREC December Educator Celebration on December 7th from 4:00 - 5:30, upcoming opportunities from our partners, and TVT/TREC's new Core Partnership.

Best,

~Jen Kinser-Traut, TREC Director

TREC Teacher Leader Spotlight

"Students are often surprised not only that there are different approaches to the math but that they get to decide which approach to use. Learning to choose wisely helps students understand the “why” behind the math." —Ellen Floyd
