Fall Tricks

Founded in 2014, Woodland Empire Ale Craft hails from Boise, Idaho. While not focusing on a specific beer genre, they make well, though out beers. Oftentimes they're on the more unique side of things. For October we're focusing on their newest Mixtape IPA, Midnight Radio Black IPA and their last B-Side release, Old Boise Lime Lager.

Midnight Radio: A Black IPA brewed with Simcoe, Cashmere, and Citra hops. Pours a dark brown/black. No roast on the nose, but definitely fruity. A very drinkable IPA with citrus and tropical fruit notes and light roast on the finish.

Old Boise Lime: An American Lager brewed with rice, Idaho barley, and hops. This version adds lime juice and salt. It pours a pale yellow/green and has a subtle lime aroma. It's ridiculously easy to drink and is crisp and dry with a light lime peel finish and more lime on the afterfinish.

Fall Treats

Little Beast is a Portland, Oregon based brewery that was founded in 2017. While they specialize in sour and funky brews, that doesn't stop them from making awesome IPAs, lagers, and other beers. This weekend, they will have their grand opening at a second retail location in Clackamas, Oregon.

Wood Chopper Wheat Beer: A Belgian-style witbier brewed with coriander, curaçao orange peel, and a twist of lime peel. The lime is evident on the nose. On the palate, the coriander shows up throughout the beer with citrus notes peaking in the mid-palate and fading out on the finish. It's nicely fizzy, but not overly so. It's a fantastic thirst quencher for whatever Fall plans you have.

Country Wizard Brett Super Saison: Originally fermented with Saccharomyces yeast. During secondary fermentation a proprietary Brettanomyces yeast strain was used. This is 8.5% ABV but does not drink like it. Its earthy, funky and fruity on the nose. That repeats on the palate, with the funk being somewhat restrained. If you'd like to cellar this, it will continue to evolve in the bottle. Little Beast suggests saving it for up to three years from bottling date, which would be July of 2021.
