October 2021 Update

Hello!

It’s been a very long while since I last sent out a newsletter, so first and foremost I hope that you are safe and healthy during this time of intense, multi-faceted global change. As for me, the last year and a half has ranged from painfully challenging to wonderfully gratifying. Here are some highlights . . .

REFLECTION 2 | 77 x 53 x 1.5 in

REVEAL | 77 x 53 x 1.5 in

I was very happy to be asked to create an original composition for a large-scale commercial lobby renovation in Brentwood, CA. Many thanks to NowArt and their amazing fine art painting team, who recreated my composition, SPLASH, onto a 11.5 ft x 16 ft stretched, framed canvas (opening image). I also painted two custom pieces (above) for the building entrance. To see process videos and additional images, please visit my website "News" page.

Nine other paintings were installed in office buildings in California and Germany; below are a few installation shots (EXHALE, ANGELS, EARLY; thank you to my collectors for the pictures):

Seven paintings found new homes with private collectors throughout the country, including INFINITY 2 (placement by MaryLinda Moss / Source Art), INTERSECTION (thank you to RealArt Gallery) and PHOENIX (thank you to my collector for the picture).

DUAL was curated into a stunning virtual design collaboration, hosted by Luxe Interiors + Design Los Angeles/Southern California Homes Editor, Lisa Bingham Dewart; thank you once again to MaryLinda Moss / Source Art for including my work.

I participated in a number of shows, most of which were online due to covid. BLUE SKIES and EXHALE were each curated into New York based Visionary Projects "The Era of Change" virtual exhibit.
MOMENT was displayed last spring along with good friend and fellow artist Adrienne Wade's work at Culver City, CA's new independent bookstore, Village Well. I highly recommend visiting if you live in the area; great people, great books, great food and excellent community events happening regularly. Piece by Piece installed a tremendous custom mosaic mural under the cafe counter, a must-see! It was great collaborating with this beautiful mosaic arts non-profit on FLY MOSAIC and FRESH; looking forward to doing more projects together.

This past year and a half has been extremely difficult for non-profits and the communities they serve. Piece by Piece provides free mosaic art workshops to residents of Skid Row, South Los Angeles, and surrounding areas who have experienced homelessness and/or are living with economic insecurity. Please consider purchasing one-of-a-kind works from their shop . . . If you're a gardener, you've got to check out their spectacular large mosaic landscape spheres . . . a few seen below at the LA County Arboretum.

That's all for now; currently available paintings can be viewed on my website, where you can also view paintings on your own walls virtually. Thanks so much for your continued interest in my work! If you know other art lovers who might enjoy knowing about me, I'd be very appreciative if you'd forward this newsletter on. For more frequent studio happenings, please follow me on Instagram.

I want to express a special thank you to everyone out there working the front lines during this pandemic, especially healthcare workers . . . I and many others are very, very grateful for the difficult work you do that largely goes unseen. I don't know where we'd be without you. Thank you so much.

Be Well,
Laura
