LEARN is our vision of a Los Angeles region that offers abundant, equitable, and diverse opportunities for lifelong learning. By the year 2050, our local education system will be well-resourced and culturally responsive with high-quality, early education programs where families are engaged in their student’s learning. Students will graduate college career-ready and equipped to thrive in the workforce of the future.
Below, read more about the five 2021 My LA2050 Grants Challenge grantees making LA the best place to LEARN, and what you can do right now to participate in their work!

RICHARD FRANCE | Principle, Estolano Advisors
My favorite Los Angeles places and spaces...
PLAY: I do a lot of cycling to get around, so any opportunity to hop on the LA River Bike Path is a welcomed respite from riding in mixed traffic.
CREATE: I was born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, so when I'm craving Caribbean cuisine I head to Natraliart Jamaican Restaurant in Arlington Heights or hit up Bridgetown Roti's pop-up in the Arts District.
CONNECT: Silver Lake's premiere lip-sync competition, "Learn the Words, B****!" did a masterful job of creating a welcoming virtual queer space during the depths of lockdown. As we emerge from the pandemic and it reclaims an IRL presence at Akbar, part of me will miss the ingenuity, talent, and support on display during those Zoom gatherings.
LEARN: The California African American Museum always has interesting, informative, and fun exhibits and programming, like the current April Bey exhibition.
LIVE: One of the best things about Los Angeles is the region's robust network of community-based organizations, committed advocates, and deep thinkers. Shout outs to just a few of the groups that I've had the privilege of working with (or admire from afar): including Active San Gabriel Valley, Inclusive Action for the City, Investing in Place, Kounkuey Design Initiative, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, People for Mobility Justice, and Strategic Actions for a Just Economy.
