IICA INAUGURATED THE INTERPRETIVE CENTER FOR TOMORROW’S AGRICULTURE (CIMAG)

CIMAG is an innovation center that links agriculture and education; it is promoted by IICA in alliance with Microsoft, Bayer and Lego. The center uses leading technologies to benefit agriculture by supporting new generations with technology access.
 
GREEN CLIMATE FUND AND IICA SIGN AGREEMENT TO INCREASE FUNDING FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCE PROJECTS IN THE REGION

“The relationship with the GCF, represents a structural change in IICA’s ability to support and add value to the resilience agenda of its Member States” declared IICA's General Director, Dr. Manuel Otero.
 
MINISTERS OF AGRICULTURE OF THE AMERICAS PROMOTE JOINT ACTION ON HEALTH, FOOD SECURITY STRENGTHENING, SUSTAINABILITY AND RURAL DIGITALIZATION
At the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2021, 33 countries of the Americas agreed on a joint position for the UN Food Systems Summit. The American hemisphere was the only region with a joint position at the Summit. Some key messages included: improved food security, environmental sustainability and the creation of more and better opportunities for rural communities.

UN SECRETARY-GENERAL’S SPECIAL ENVOY SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH IICA AND SEES FOOD SYSTEMS SUMMIT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SET COURSES OF ACTION TO ACHIEVE ZERO HUNGER

The agreement with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) will promote the recovery of soil fertility, combat poverty and hunger, and transform the agri-food systems in their respective regions.
 
MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC URGES COUNTRIES OF THE AMERICAS TO APPLY EMERGENCY MEASURES TO PREVENT AFRICAN SWINE FEVER 
 
“I am grateful for the support of our sister countries and international organizations and ask that a resolution be approved granting IICA the authority to continue supporting the actions necessary to face the emergency and prevent ASF in the countries of the Americas”, asked Limber Cruz López, Minister of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic. 

GUATEMALAN COFFEE PRODUCER ELVIA MONZÓN RECEIVED IICA’S “SOUL OF RURALITY” AWARD

“As a rural woman, I will continue to fight so that our voices as small-scale coffee producers are heard...We are fighting to conserve the soil and to produce organic products; this is the biggest challenge I have in representing this group of women in Guatemala”, Elvia Monzón declared.

BIO-CAFÉ: AN ONLINE COMPETITION TO PROMOTE BIO-BUSINESSES IN THE COFFEE CHAIN


The competition is aimed at producers, entrepreneurs, associations, cooperatives and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises related to the bioeconomy coffee chain in Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador.

ONLINE COURSE ON GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES FOR A RESILIENT AGRICULTURE 


The Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (EMBRAPA) and IICA launched a free, online, self-study course available in Spanish and English on IICA’s e-learning platform. This course is aimed at producers, processors, extensionists, educators and all people involved in agricultural production and Environmental Protection.

The Outlook for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Americas: A Perspective on Latin America and the Caribbean 

 
The interdisciplinary study, with more than 30 technical specialists from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), concludes that "overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic provides an opportunity to transform the development model of Latin America and the Caribbean and build agrifood systems that are resilient to future risks."
