For this month's edition, we have Gabriella Barilla  sharing her story:

"Hi I’m Gabriella, I became an official general member of Adelaide University Rotaract Club (AURC) back in 2020, I joined to give back to the community, make friendships and network. Throughout my childhood and till this day I have also volunteered for Rotary through the Rotary Club of Gawler where my dad is a member and past president. Within AURC I am also a member of the Professional Development Subcommittee. I’ve learnt so much within this subcommittee under the guidance of Preeti Maharjan previous Director of the subcommittee and Anushka Barman our current Director. I am also so excited, with the support of Rotary Club of Gawler; to have recently been accepted to participate in the upcoming September RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) program. I currently attend the University of Adelaide where I study a Bachelor of Criminology and a Bachelor of Psychological Science. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given at university from those in particular being able to go to Vancouver, Canada and study Forensic Psychology. This experience has made me more culturally aware and has aided in the strengthening of what I would like to do as a probable future career. That being either social work, youth work or a career in the forensic psychology field. I suggest to anyone to always have a go be it within Rotaract, university or life in general. There are so many opportunities out there just waiting, opportunity lies outside your comfort zone. ”
Torrens River Clean-Up #11

For September edition of Torrens River Cleanup our volunteers again joined Trash Hero Adelaide for getting that trash out of the environment.
The team was able to collect 3 kg of trash including cigarette butts, pieces of plastic, masks and general waste.

Walk n' Talk

The weekly meeting on 2nd of September was a little different as we opted to take a stroll down the River Torrens instead of holding it in the Hartley Building as usual We discussed everything from our cultural background to the types of stereotypes we encounter while under the cover of the night sky.

Blood Donation Drive 2021

The Annual Blood Donation Drive in collaboration with Redcross Lifeblood was a huge success. Our amazing volunteers got together to donate blood/plasma and were able to save 45 potential lives within the period of June to September 15.

Cultural NIght Showcase #2

Adelaide Uni Rotaractors put on a spectacular Cultural Night Showcase #2 in Hub Central of the University of Adelaide! We were joined by the Adelaide University Malaysian Students Association as well as featured performances from Aparna Nithyanand (India), Dilsuz Griffen (Uzbekistan), the Chonkai Latin Folkloric Dance Group (Colombia), and the Togolese Community of South Australia's Dance Group!

Rotary Club of Adelaide Luncheon

Our members were invited to Rotary Adelaide Luncheon to provide spotlight and promote Cultural Night 2021. Our very talented member, Aparna Nithyanand performed a mesmerising routine of Indian Classical dance form, Bharatanatyam

Model UN Workshop

It was a fun night at our Model UN Workshop in collaboration with the University of Adelaide Model UN Club. Our talented and headstrong delegates performed a most difficult task of writing and debating a resolution on the topic of Reinvigorating Sustainable Development Goal 7 as part of the International Energy Association.

General Meeting - Character Strengths

For this general meeting, we were lucky enough to be joined by Fiona Biedermann, a Business Change and Leadership Coach who is also managing the Public Image and Membership for Rotary District 9510. Fiona not only analysed the Character Strengths of individual attendees but also showed us the ways we can improve on our characteristics and how to optimise our strengths.

Cooking Class - Thailand
Another very successful cooking class!!
Thailand Cooking Class was on another level of tasty food and entertaining performance. A huge thank you to the Thai-Australian Association of South Australia for collaborating with us today! Special thanks to chefs Tanakorn and Than, owners of Rue de Siam  and to the amazing performers of today, Wattana Cullinan, Kathleen Cullinan and Siraphat Sadler
Communicating Across Cultures Panel

We were delighted to be joined by Sisaleo Philavong, Tingting Zhou, Yeganeh Soltanpour, and Div Pillay who joined us through zoom.

Each of the panelists, including the host, Terin Tom, shared their insightful views on cultural shock and intelligence, particularly for international students, as well as cultural identity and the significance of communication across different cultures
The audience was also involved in the discussion and some of the attendees spoke about their opinions on the topics as well.

RYLA September 2021

Proud Of Our Future Leaders

6 of our Rotaractors were part of the September Batch of RYLA 2021 along with one Rotaractor as a mentor as well. The RYLA not only helps these young individuals to realise their true potential but also form meaningful bonds and friendships.

September Social - Henley Beach

September social was celebrated in Henley Beach with frolic, games and laughter. From the +4’s of UNO to balancing in a 5 legged race Rotaractors and friends enjoyed each and every aspect of the day. Everyone got a chance to destress and enjoy the sunny weather. The day ended with the classic game of Mafia (Coz Why Not!?!) and everyone went home though exhausted but with big smiles on their faces

Weekly Meetup - The Lost Dice

The Fun Never Stops At Rotaract Town
For today’s weekly meeting, the Rotaractors and friends went to The Lost Dice for an afternoon full of games, food and laughter. Everyone enjoyed the extensive range of board games there and tried their hands in some new ones as well.

BREAD TAGS FOR WHEELCHAIRS
Did you know something as simple as a bread tag can help those who need it most? Bread Tags for Wheelchairs SA helps turn bread tags into, well, a wheelchair! With BTFWSA, we're hoping to collect 200kg of bread tags from everywhere and anywhere to fund one wheelchair for a person in need!

We’re inviting schools, aged care homes, hospitals, bakeries, other businesses and, most of all, YOU to get involved with this project and start collecting!
