On 18 September, Unison conducted group interviews for applicants of the Chinese Performance Scholarship. The objective of the scholarship is to commend ethnic minority students who attained good grades in HKDSE Chinese and GCE (AL) Chinese exams. Every interviewee shared their journey in Chinese learning and critically assessed the factors that affect their learning. Through this reflection, applicants had a better understanding of “equal education opportunity”.

Social Impact Assessment Report on Unison Youth Programme

Unison commissioned the consulting team of Dr. Sammy Fung of HKU to conduct an assessment on the social impact generated by Unison Youth Programmes 2020-21. The assessment was funded by the Knowledge Exchange Project, HKU. The KPIs were designed according to 4 levels of measurement evaluating: subjective well-being and satisfaction, knowledge, skills and attitude, behaviour and behavioural change, and cost effectiveness. The report says “While there have been other organisations dedicated to supporting ethnic minority in Hong Kong, few have specialized in empowering ethnic minority youths at the post-senior secondary age group, an important period shaping young people’s lives and careers. It is encouraging to see ethnic minority youths of this age group finding companionship and support from the Programme.

Unison also provided the parents with a list of Yuen Long schools with details on the medium of instruction, Chinese learning support for NCS students, and medium of language for school notices, to facilitate their decision-making.
