COVID19, COVID lockdown , the preceding bushfires and the general uncertainty and upheaval of our times have created stress, anxiety and depression in a lot of us. Previous ways of dealing with the ups and downs of life may not be up to the job. It’s a hard time for families, couples and singles as this is not ‘business as usual’ and to expect our emotional capacity not to be challenged is simply unrealistic.

The good news is that resilience, coping skills, patience and the qualities of care can be increased and this is backed by research. Quality of life, capacities of forgiveness, generosity, patience, gratitude and overall wellbeing start with making these elements consciously important and taking small steps to improve our well being. Visit our blog for some great resources, backed by solid research and curated by our team.

Take care of yourselves and each other

While face to face service delivery will continue to be provided for a small number of clients who present with specific support needs, in the majority of cases case management and support will be provided by video-conferencing or phone calls. Staff and client safety will be paramount for to face contact, and screening, masking, social distancing and sanitising protocols will be implemented using our learnings from previous experience with service delivery under COVID-19 conditions.

EveryMan of the Month

We recently interviewed our latest EveryMan of the Month recipients Ben and David, Co-Founders of The Mens Table.

The Mens Table creates a unique environment for men to share openly about their lives, their challenges, their highs, and lows with a group of men who they learn to trust and respect.

It is important for men to connect and that’s exactly what the Men’s Table aims to achieve, connecting men in an informal fashion over a good meal.

Tables typically meet once a month in-person. In the interim, due to uncertainties with lockdown, entree events and Tables are being held over Zoom. This is a great opportunity to connect with others during a time where you may be feeling isolated and alone.

Feedback from the existing 35+ Tables is that a virtual Table is a positive experience, and an effective fall-back approach to sustaining the benefits of The Men's Table.

Lockdown escalates risk of violence in the home

As we continue life in lockdown, it can turn up the heat on fractures and fault-lines at home, increasing the risk and the rate of domestic and family violence. If you're worried you're at risk of being violent, we have services that can help.

Our Connect & Support service can help if you feel that you are at risk of being violent to a family member or need to discuss issues that are placing your partner and /or family at harm. You can call Connect & Support on 0479 018 021 to talk with a violence prevention specialist to discuss strategies that will keep your family safe and discuss ongoing supports through one of our programs.

Please note that Connect & Support is available between the hours of 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. If we are unable to take your call immediately leave a message and we will respond as soon as we possibly can. If the matter is urgent, please call 000.
