VISITING ARTIST EMILY HARTER

Gray-scale print with red spots of color of cartoon-faced figures, one preparing to whip the other, riding backwards past barren trees on a racing horse.

Emily Harter, Looking a Gift Horse in the Mouth, 2021, Etching

Bohemian Press, the student-run printmaking club, is bringing Chicago-based painter and printmaker Emily Harter to give an artist talk on Thursday, October 7 at 6:30 PM CST on Zoom and make an edition of etchings!

Based in Chicago, IL, Emily Harter is an interdisciplinary influenced by convergent backgrounds in printmaking and art history. Her work depicts worlds populated by hedonistic shape-shifting lesbian witches and ruled by cartoon logic. With this, she aims to address and interrogate queerness as embodied in the self, partnership, and community. Her work frequently refers back to art historical tropes, evoking a sense of timelessness and permanence in the representation of an identity often thought of as modern.

Stop by the printmaking studios Friday, October 8, and Saturday, October 9 in Regis West during the following times to see Emily and Bohemians at work. All are welcome:

Friday, October 8 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 1:00 - 5:00 PM
Saturday, October 9 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
