UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW - RECENT UPDATES FROM SINGAPORE

Some important updates regarding the recent Singapore support at the Universal Periodic Review this year with United Nations member states.

There were 3 different joint reports made by several LGBTQ organizations, Sayoni IndigNation SG, Prout, The Healing Circle SG, Young OUT Here, Oogachaga, Pink Dot SG, and #WeAreAPTN on:

1. Transgender Issues
2. Violence and Discrimination against LGBTQ persons
3. Key Issues impacting Singapore LGBTQ community.

Leaving No One Behind: Decriminalization of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

The LGBTI Core Group will hold a high-level discussion during the high-level segment of the 76th session of the General Assembly to address the need to end the criminalization of same sex relations and trans identities in order to achieve the 2030 Agenda. As long as a part of the world's population is criminalized simply for who they are or who they love, we will not be able to fully achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.LGBTI persons experience discrimination and exclusion based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics, real or perceived, in all corners of the globe.

DATE: 22 September

GCRI-SOGI – Global COVID-19 Research Initiative on SOGI – New Website

The GCRI-SOGI is a global research initiative launched by a collective of 21 LGBTQ+ organisations from across the globe. The study hopes to investigate the ways in which LBGTQ+ individuals, activists/advocates, and organisations have been affected by the shifting landscape brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a vulnerable and marginalised community, we recognise that the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals may not be effectively captured or reported upon.

The Discrimination of Trans Women during the Covid 19 Pandemic in Indonesia

Our friends Manushya Foundation made this comic about the increase of discrimination faced by Transwomen during the COVID-19 pandemic in #Indonesia
Transgenders in Indonesia experience difficulties in accessing public services and COVID-19 vaccination programmes because they dont own identity cards or E-KTP.
Hopefully, the Directorate General Population and Civil Registration recently issued a policy on identity cards for transgenders.
