Alumni and Membership Achievements
Dione Rogers, Sarah Hanbridge, Emily Wells and current scholar Lisa Ward have all been nominated for Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) of the year at the Digital Health Awards. You can read more about their achievements and vote for them here.

Excitingly, a group of our current scholars have created their very own Leadership Log podcast. This involves interviewing guest speakers who share their top tips on leadership. You can follow them on twitter for exciting updates about when the first episode will be published.
We have also been overwhelmed by the number of our alumni who have attended interviews as finalists for either the Nursing Times Awards or Student Nursing Times Awards. Congratulations for reaching the finalist stage. We are keeping our fingers crossed for you all!

In partnership with Health Education England Southeast, we are launching system-level student leadership opportunities for student nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and trainee nursing associates who undertake clinical placements in the Southeast of England.

Health Education England Southeast is establishing six multi-professional Student Councils, one per Integrated Care System (ICS) across the Southeast region of England. With 12 seats available for each ICS Student Council, resulting in 72 new and unique leadership opportunities for students to influence senior healthcare leaders.

Students will hold Student Council Member positions for up to 12 months and work with University and Practice Providers in their ICS to set the direction of the Council with clear objectives. In addition, the students will be fully supported by the Workforce Transformation Team at HEE SE alongside FNF with a full induction programme, reverse mentoring, and a three-day bespoke leadership programme.

More details about the Student Councils Programme including the role descriptor and application form can be found here.

FNF's Attendance at Who Cares Wins Awards

We were proud to be invited to attend the Who Cares Wins awards ceremony hosted by The Sun and Channel 4 on 14th September 2021. The Who Cares Wins awards applaud, thank and celebrate NHS staff and other healthcare workers over the last year.

Representing the Foundation were our Chair Dame Yvonne Moores DBE, CEO Professor Greta Westwood CBE, Director of Academy Dr Gemma Stacey and Deputy Director of Academy Lucy Brown.

It was a star-studded event attended by HRH The Duke of Cambridge, David Beckham, Rod Stewart, Davina McCall, Gary Lineker, Frank Lampard, Kate Garraway, Mark Cavendish and many more VIPs. The Prime Minster, the Rt. Hon Boris Johnson, the Rt. Hon Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and the Rt. Hon Savid Javid, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care were also in attendance to show their support.

The Foundation was delighted to attend and support the three FNF Alumni who were finalists at the awards.

Ross Anderson

Ross is a 2018 FNF Windrush Scholar and deputy charge nurse at Guy and St Thomas’ sexual health clinic. He was redeployed to the front line of the pandemic in March 2020 and has since gone on to work in and lead five busy vaccination centres.

Lauren Hutton

Lauren is a 2018 Scholar and Bereavement Midwife at Imperial College Hospital. She was nominated as Best Midwife by her patient Carly Hogson who she helped care for after the stillbirth of Carly’s daughter Poppy. Lauren offered support over the phone in the months after Poppy’s death.

Nicola Johnson

FNF Alumni Nicola is a Specialist Infectious Diseases Midwife at Barts Health NHS Trust who has pioneered a new project to offer pregnant women living with HIV free milk vouchers for their children. There is a risk of women with HIV passing the condition onto children through breastfeeding which is why it is important to give the option to use formula milk to feed their baby without extra costs.
Whilst our Alumni may not have won on the night, they are all winners in the eyes of FNF! We were incredibly privileged to join and celebrate with them all. It is an honour to be able to continue to watch them grow and develop and accomplish life-changing achievements.
FNF CEO's London Marathon Update
It’s just over a day to go until our CEO Greta Westwood will be running the London Marathon to raise vital funds for FNF. Greta has completed 10 weeks of training and during August has run over 150 miles! Whilst it has been gruelling, Greta said that ‘when training gets tough, I think of every nurse and midwife supporting the Covid crisis. What I am doing is tough but not compared to what you have all been through over the last 18 months.’

You can sponsor Greta and keep up to date with her training here.
