Bulb Exchange

Weber State's Empower North Utah Program is offering residents of Weber and Davis Counties discounted smart thermostats for under $60 (originally $169) and free LED light bulbs in exchange for old bulbs! These energy efficiency upgrades can cut utility costs, clean Utah's air, and reduce fossil fuel emissions.

Residents can bring up to 10 old, inefficient incandescent or CFL bulbs to exchange for new, energy efficient LED bulbs. Bulbs are available on a first come, first serve, walk-up basis during the exchange events held on Saturday, October 2nd &  9th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Weber County Library Main Branch (2464 Jefferson Ave. Ogden, Utah 84401) in the Activity Center downstairs.

Residents must pre-register for smart thermostats. Registration opens on Tuesday, September 28 at 6:00 p.m. on theweber.edu/empower website and will remain open while supplies last. Successful registrants will receive a link to schedule a time for thermostat pick up on Saturday, October 9th.

Mineral of the Week - Native Copper

Copper is the state mineral of Utah. When copper is found in its pure metal form in nature it is called Native Copper. Native copper has been used since ancient times to create tools and jewelry. It is still heavily used today. Utah is home to one of the largest copper mines in the world today, the Bingham Canyon Mine, or as many native Utahns call it, the Kennecott mine.
