NNHS SEALS
Last year, Newton North created a Seal program that allows students to receive a seal on their transcript demonstrating passion and expertise in particular areas. NNHS currently has three seals: Biliteracy, Civic Action, and Social Justice. These offer opportunities to acknowledge that students at North spend a tremendous amount of time learning both in the classroom and in their co-curricular activities.

The next rounds of applications for the Seal of Civic Action and the Seal of Social Justice are due October 15. Seniors wishing to apply should fill out the pre-registration form by Oct. 8. There will be additional application dates later in the school year. For more information on these seals, please visit the Seals of Civic Action and Social Justice information page here

Students wishing to pre-register for the December or January online assessment for the Seal of Biliteracy should do so by October 20. More information and forms for the Seal of Biliteracy can be found here.

PTSO AT-LARGE METCO REP
At the September 21 PTSO Board meeting, Mark Tackie was nominated by the Board to serve as the PTSO ‘At-Large’ METCO representative. The membership will vote on the nomination at the October 26 Board meeting. As always, the PTSO Board meetings are open to the entire membership, and we encourage you to participate.

PTSO VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Newton North PTSO depends on the generosity and energy of parent/guardian volunteers to help keep our community informed, connected, and strong. Below are several committee openings and opportunities with varying time commitments. Please see the NNHS PTSO website to learn more.

Celebration Co-chairs (2 or 3) – oversee the post-prom party for all seniors. Everyone is looking forward to the return of this North tradition! We have a great group of volunteers already but we still need Co-Chairs. Please consider stepping up to fill this role. This is a great way for parents/guardians of younger students to pay it forward.

NNHS COVID Primary Source Book – The Newton North Librarians worked with staff and students to create The Newton North High School Covid Primary Source Book. The book contains writings, artwork, and a timeline reflecting the experiences of the North Community. If you are interested in working on the launch events, including book sales and a celebration scheduled for March 2022, the 2nd Anniversary of North's closing due to Covid, please send your information to co-presidents@northptso.org.

PORCH PARTY 2021: OCTOBER 16
Sign-up ends this week! Please join us as a guest!

Northside Dining Adventure, the PTSO's annual adult social event, is now Northside Porch Party 2021, small outdoor gatherings hosted by North parents and guardians on their porches, decks, and yards on Saturday, October 16. We have numerous generous hosts, but would love to have more guests. Please find more details here.

MULTICULTURAL NIGHT: OCTOBER 27
Travel around the world…in one evening! Mark your calendars for Newton North PTSO’s 4th Multicultural Night to celebrate our school’s diversity through delicious foods and wonderful displays. If you would like to have a table, bring food or help with this event in other ways, please reach out to Julie Pinto and Pria Sarma at multicultural@northptso.org. Students are encouraged to participate as exhibitors and to attend. Note: this year’s event will be outdoors at NNHS under the tent.
