Committee Updates

The Research Committee, currently led by first year medical student Minka Gill, has been researching human trafficking knowledge among surgeons with pediatric surgeon and PATH president Dr. Liz Berdan.

The Fundraising Committee would like to extend their appreciation to everyone who participated in PATH's virtual raffle, which closed last month! The student fundraising team was able to raise $500 to continue to host free LIFT trainings for healthcare personnel. Winners have been contacted directly via email. The next fundraiser will be the SECOND ANNUAL AMWA-PATH 5K. The event will be virtual and a collectable new t-shirt will be available! Keep an eye out for more information about that in the coming weeks. 

The Education Committee is looking for help creating educational videos on labor trafficking. If you are interested in getting involved in this, please email rachel.anderson@umass.edu. If you are interested in joining the student interest group, please email racheligeiser@gmail.com.

AMWA Membership

Student Spotlight

The October Student Spotlight highlights Angie Harbour.

Angie is a Florida State University medical student who is currently in between her third- and fourth year doing research at University of Alabama Birmingham. Angie is planning on applying into ophthalmology next year and is studying chronic inflammation and vascular biology at the molecular level with the disease model being diabetic retinopathy; she is also studying the impact of telemedicine with vulnerable populations in rural settings. She has been with PATH for the past two years and currently serves as our Student Interest Group Vice President. In her free time Angie enjoys yoga, movement, healthy cooking, and anything outdoors including trekking, skiing, and rock climbing. She is looking forward to continue working with AMWA-PATH as it fuels her passions for advocacy for human trafficking awareness and identification combined with women in medicine.
