SERVE SUNDAY WAS AMAZING!
Showing Up for Our Community by Serving Our Schools

On Sunday September 26, we spent the morning shoveling, raking, weeding, trimming, smiling, visiting, creating memories, and making a difference at at Washington High School, Shining Mountain Elementary, and Bethel Learning Center. We also delivered gifts to every person on staff at those three locations as well as North Star Elementary and Bethel High School. An email this week let us know that the effort was worth it, "I just wanted to say thank you so much for the treat bag, I work at Bethel High School and I can't tell you how appreciated it is."
What we do on Serve Sunday is really pretty simple, but we hear year after year what a difference it makes to the staff and students to know that their community cares about them. It's also exciting to see families working side by side as we make a difference together. Thank you, RVCC, for your hard work at Serve Sunday!
SUMMER OF SERVING RECAP

As promised, since we managed to serve more than 800 hours during our Summer of Serving, Serve Sunday ended by gathering at RVCC Graham to dunk some of our pastors. Though the dunking was fun, what really matters is that we worked together to serve 894 hours. That makes a difference!
Many of you went out in your neighborhoods to pick up trash, babysit for your neighbors, help them move and mow their lawns. Others served with our community partners at Coffee Oasis, with the shower and laundry trailer at RVCC Parkland, by working at local food banks, helping at Relay for Life, and serving at free clinics to provide medical and dental care to those without. Our campuses look more welcoming, thanks to those who weeded, while others provided fresh produce through our Community Garden. One individual served with a search and recue team and two teams served further afield in Mexico and Austria. RVCC, you impacted the lives of neighbors, widows, immigrants, homeless, and our own church community. Thank you for participating in the Summer of Serving!
Are you relatively new to RVCC? Maybe you've been around for a while, but you haven't yet jumped into community. Or perhaps, you're looking for a way to re-engage with RVCC after the chaos of the last 20 months. If that’s you, then we want to invite you to join us at Next Steps.
Next Steps is an opportunity for you to meet new people while learning more about RVCC and how to be on mission with us.

Week one will give you the opportunity to discover Rainier View as you learn about where we have been and where we are going as a church. Week two is all about engaging in community and getting involved in groups. Finally, week three will give you a behind the scenes look at where you can make a difference through serving.

CELEBRATING A DIFFERENCE MAKER
Volunteer Spotlight
Jamie McNiven, a senior in high school, has been at RVCC for a little over five years, and in that time she has made a huge difference. Among other things, Jamie serves in the nursery, mows the lawn at RVCC Parkland, helps provide childcare for special events, cleans and sets up for middle school programs, and has served at kids overnight camp. Jamie also shows up when RVCC is serving our community at events like Serve Sunday and Winterfest. What matters the most though is that Jamie doesn't just serve, she serves with joy and her kindness is contagious. She understands what it means to say, "RVCC is my church" as she invests her time and energy. Thank you, Jamie, for all you do to make a difference!

ARE YOU READY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

There are three ongoing opportunities at RVCC to make an impact on those in our community who could use a little extra help.
  • Community Dinner - Every Monday evening at 5:30pm at RVCC Parkland we serve a free meal that is available to anybody in our community. Extra hands are always welcome to help prepare and serve our guests at Community Dinner.
  • Shower & Laundry Trailer - On the second Monday of each month, from 4:00-7:30pm at RVCC Parkland, we partner with the New Hope Resource Center to host a mobile shower and laundry trailer for the homeless. Volunteers are needed to serve alongside the New Hope staff as they provide this vital service.
  • Food Bank - There are multiple ways to get involved with the food bank at RVCC Parkland. Non-perishable items are always needed as we rely completely on donations to provide bags of groceries to families in our community. We also are looking for somebody to invest in this ministry by regularly organizing the food pantry and prepping the grocery bags that we distribute.
If you are interested in serving in any of these areas, hit reply and let's talk!
Watch the video to hear how Lee Ann has been blessed to serve with the shower and laundry trailer.
Please pray for Barbra Carrington, a longtime member of RVCC Parkland, who's husband died on September 28. There will be a memorial service for Tom Carrington on Saturday, October 30, 11:0am at RVCC Parkland.
