BAND and ORCHESTRA INFO FOR 5th Grade Parents:

To 5th grade parents,
Hey Mom and Dad, can I join band or orchestra?

If this sounds familiar, follow the steps below to learn more about the instrumental music programs and how to register for band or orchestra.

  1. Students watched this video in music class about the D181 instrumental music programs: tinyurl.com/d181bandorchestra
  2. Then, they saw this video: tinyurl.com/D181instrumentdemo of our Middle School students demonstrating the individual instruments.
  3. Next, each student had an individual interview with the band and orchestra director to try several instruments.  We start with the students’ preference, but also check physical characteristics, which plays an important role in determining success on an instrument.
  4. After you receive the instrument recommendation certificate - you can register online by clicking on this link: tinyurl.com/instrumentreg2021 - the deadline is Friday, October 15th.
  5. Then make instrument rental arrangements with Quinlan & Fabish: qandf.com or procure an instrument, accessories & music on your own. Please be sure to stay with our recommended brands & supplies:           2021recommendedbrands
  6. Contact us with any questions: Band: Laura Stibich - Lstibich@d181.org;              Orchestra: Meghann Talbot - mtalbot@d181.org

FLYERS and MORE DETAILS

Hello Future and Current HMS Families!

On September 14th, 1976, forty-five years ago, the D181 School Board and the Committee for Art in Hinsdale raised funds to purchase and install an outdoor steel sculpture. This large-scale, blue sculpture called the Windhover, was placed on the grounds of the Hinsdale Junior High School and was dedicated to D181 students; past, present and future. Created by the renowned artist, Robert Murray, the Windhover is nationally recognized with an official registration at the Smithsonian Institute.

However, over time, the Windhover has endured scraped paint, blistering, graffiti, and rust. As such, the sculpture needs to be transported to a facility that can restore the piece by removing the damaged surface and applying a high-performance coating that will both beautify and protect the sculpture for years. Following these repairs, the Windhover will be reinstalled with a fresh hardscape (including new cement pad, landscaping and a brick walkway), seating for students, lighting and an informational plaque.

We are asking you to partner with both the HMS PTO and District 181 by supporting this highly anticipated and much needed restoration project. When you have a moment, please open the attached sponsorship letter to determine your level of giving.  A donation in any amount for the restoration of this truly unique work of art would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Windhover Fundraising Committee at windhover@hmspto.org.
