Dear Neighbor,

Don't forget I will be holding Community Office Hours tonight at Faxon Branch Library from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about the 2021 legislative session, ask questions, share your concerns, or present an idea for potential legislation. I hope you'll stop by and say hi!
LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS
Last week, the governor and Connecticut Attorney General announced a 4103.4 million proposed settlement with Eversource Energy for its inadequate response efforts to Tropical Storm Isaias last year. The deal must be approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA). The current proposal would direct Eversource to return $65 million to customers in two credits on their December and January bills. The average credit is project to be $35.

The utility also agreed not to appeal a $28.4 million penalty imposed by state regulators for its poor response. The remaining $10 million will help customers who are experiencing difficulty paying their utility bills. Eversource will also forego seeking a rate increase until at least January 2023 for rates taking place in 2024.

You can get all of the details about the proposed settlement on the Hartford Courant website here.

Over the summer the Attorney General, along with the Coalition for Elder Justice in Connecticut and Departments of Aging and Disability Services and Consumer Protection launched the Elder Justice Hotline – a “one stop shop” for older in adults in Connecticut in need of information, aid, and justice.

If you have been the victim of a fraud, need assistance accessing benefits, or have been the victim of abuse or neglect, you can contact the Elder Justice Hotline at 1-860-808-5555. The line is staffed by the Attorney General's Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals who call the line after business hours should leave a message and their call will be returned as soon as possible.

Please note the hotline is an additional resource to connect residents seeking information to the appropriate state agencies. The Elder Justice Hotline does not investigate reports of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. These reports will be referred to the state Department of Social Service, Elderly Protective Services Unit. Individuals may call the DSS Elderly Protective Services Unit directly at 1-888-385-4225 during regular business hours. After hours, individuals should call the 2-1-1 infoline.

Breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women with breast cancer have no symptoms. This is why regular breast cancer screening is so important!
