Daily Reading
We are working on building routines around daily reading. Currently, daily homework is not being assigned, but students are expected to read for a minimum of 30 minutes at home each day. They should try to balance between reading in French and English as much as possible. Up until this point the Allenby library has been closed to students, however, we are planning to have it open to students very shortly and I will accompany them on their first visit so that they learn how to effectively browse the library collection and select appropriate reading materials. Following this lesson, students will be permitted to visit the library during the Junior Book Exchange periods. These will be shared as soon as the library is open. In addition to what is available in the school library, I will provide students with access to a rotating selection of French books and magazines in the classroom. Students are encouraged to access materials from home and through the Toronto Public Library as well. Once the library is open, students will only be permitted to read in French during our morning independent reading time. If you wish to purchase additional French reading materials for your child, consider purchasing through Scholastic. If you make a purchase using our classroom code, RC208042, a portion of your sales are donated to the classroom to purchase additional materials for students. Monthly flyers are available online.
