October Spotlight
This October Spotlight shines on Brian Catanese! Brian has been a client since 2018 when he joined our Winter Sports Conditioning Series stating, “I was skiing a lot more then and it was my first season in the backcountry. I was always tired, I had no endurance, by the time I would get to the top, I would not want to ski anymore. That's when I knew I needed to do something about it.” Brian has completed three Winter Sports Condition Series and says “ every season I have seen a significant improvement, my skiing is stronger, I’m more confident and it makes me safer as well.” Brian has taken what he has learned from the series and applied it to his home workouts.
In recognizing Brian it is necessary to mention his progress in the past year. Brian underwent surgery for his shoulder in January 2021. He opted in because he wasn’t improving with a strengthening routine anymore and it was holding him back from living his active lifestyle. In the past 10 years Brian had endured 15 shoulder dislocations, needless to say it was time to have his shoulder repaired. After his surgery Brian did his rehabilitation with Phil Rambo at Mercy Integrated Physical Therapy. In February about six weeks after his surgery he began Personal Training with Taylor Montgomery at Mercy Sports Medicine. Brian began personal training in conjunction with physical therapy to “start waking the rest of the body up”. Personal Training “kept me from going crazy, because I’ve never been able to stop moving...it helped me stabilize myself during that really stressful and painful period, but it was still hard because I hadn’t moved in six weeks.” Brian’s training routine has morphed from being very limited in movement and ability into high level multiplanuar circuit training.
Fast Forward about 6 months, Brian has finished physical therapy and been cleared by his doctor and is back to all his regular activities. He is ramping up for a long paddle trip and preparing for ski season. Brian’s had a long journey in both healing and improving his strength and his abilities will continue, but we mark his success and continue to support his adventurous goals!
