Fall Retreat:

Stories and Generosity

Our Fall Retreat this year tried to offer our students refreshment and rejuvenation.  We had group activities planned, interspersed with a lot of flexible free time.  But the retreat was more than a  “vacation from school.” It combined our semester theme—Share THE LIFE Story—with the tangible generosity of some of our local supporters.

Local Support

Our students know that MCF is a non-profit, and that we rely on the love and kindness of our supporters.  But during the Fall Retreat, our students really experienced MCF’s local support team in two tangible ways—food and lodging.

Food is always the way to a college student’s heart! Our local supporting churches outdid themselves providing snacks for our students.  Two LARGE bins in the kitchen were OVERFLOWING with either salty or sweet goodies, all of which were donated by two of our supporting churches: Christian Community Church and First Christian Church of Murray.  Students were overwhelmed by not only the options, but the kindness of people they haven’t met.

The lake house where we stayed was donated by MCF alumni Greg and Kristin Taylor.  Every step the students took, wherever they slept, and everywhere they sat was a solid, touchable reminder of the generosity of others.  Whether they wanted to go kayaking or just sit on the deck and chat, the whole experience was made possible by former MCF students.

Share THE LIFE Story

As previously mentioned, our semester theme is Share THE LIFE Story.  We are learning not only to share Jesus’ life story, but our own.

During Fall Retreat we did a lot of story sharing.  We told silly stories over the campfire, talked about Jesus’ story as we read through Mark’s Gospel, and even had deep conversations before breakfast.  By creating a space in our schedule to get away from the chaos of our daily lives, we gave ourselves the chance to learn more about each other and Jesus.

Connecting Generosity to Story

All this generosity is more than simple kindness.  It is love shown through our supporters, and adds to the life story of each of our students, and continues to tell the life story of Jesus.

The Apostle Paul wrote this to the Corinthian church:

"This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.  And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.  Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!"
2 Corinthians 9:12-15

Whenever someone donates something, or offers their service, or prays for us, all of these are acts are worship.  And when our students experience your kindness and thoughtfulness, they see Jesus loving them through you.

It’s Your Turn!

Our Fall Retreat truly combined our supporters’ love with MCF’s desire to share life together.  But what about you?  What stories do you have to share?   How can you support MCF in tangible ways?

To answer those questions, keep reading!  We have two special opportunities for you to share your story as part of our Homecoming celebration, and to help provide for some specific MCF needs.  We are so grateful for each and every one of you, and we look forward to hearing more!

Thank you for serving God through us at Murray State!

2021 Homecoming Announcement

As of Oct 1, 2021 Calloway County is in the Red Zone for the COVID virus according to the Calloway County Health Department.

Due to this condition, we will not be having any formal in-person Homecoming gatherings.

But we still want to celebrate how we continue to
share the life stories as the MCF family!

We would love to collect as many videos of our alumni and friends giving us a quick update, shout out, and blessing to share in a compiled presentation.

How It Works
We are using a service called Memento to compile our videos.  (You may have used a similar website for a friend's birthday video.)

Visit our Memento page at https://app.memento.com/mcf-homecoming-2021/tTposRrpI/record or click the button under the photo above to learn more.

Record and submit your video no later than Tuesday Oct. 19, 2021.  This will give us time to edit them before Homecoming Weekend. The earlier you can upload your video, the better!

Videos can be recorded on tablets, phones, computers, etc.

What to Put In Your Video
1) Tell us who you are! Names of people in the video, how you know about MCF, when you attended Murray State (if applicable), etc.
2) How's it going? Tell us a quick highlight, story, etc.
3) Any shout outs, blessings for MCF and students, etc.
4) Keep it short! This will be the hardest part.  Keep it between 30 and 60 seconds.
5) For best results, turn your camera sideways (landscape mode).

We will release the video on Homecoming Weekend (Oct 23rd-Oct 24th) on Instagram, Facebook and our Website!

Thanks for your continued support and participation in the MCF family in this ongoing story that God is writing!
Gifts for MCF
Is your love language gift giving?
Do you love to provide for practical, tangible needs?
Check out our new Amazon Wish List!

MCF completely relies on the generosity and kindness of our financial supporters.  We love and appreciate each and every one of our Support Team members!  But we know that, in addition to your monthly gift, some of you would also like to provide for us
in more specific ways.

If that describes you, then check out our Amazon Wish List!

We do a lot of our shopping at our local Walmart, but we also purchase many things online through Amazon.

Therefore, we have created an Amazon Wish List with specific needs we have throughout the year.

Typically we use Amazon to purchase Biblical study materials for students and staff, items for on-campus activities, and specialty supplies for the Campus House.  But our needs are always changing.
We plan to keep adding to the list, so keep checking in!

Not sure what to pick? Get us an Amazon gift card!
Sometimes we need something quickly (books for a student study, supplies for an outreach table, etc.) and don't have time to contact specific supporters to ask for help.  The gift cards give us the flexibility to get what we need, when we need it, so we can share Jesus here at MCF!

And don't forget to shop through Amazon Smile, and choose MCF as your Charity of Choice!
Financial Update
We thank you for your continued financial and prayerful support!
