Conflict in the Horn of Africa











The Prevention Research Center at Georgia State University will host a brownbag workshop on Conflict in the Horn of Africa on Thursday, October 7th at 10 am EST. The guest speaker is Laetitia Bader, the Horn of Africa Director at Human Rights Watch. In this seminar Laetitia Bader will facilitate an interactive conversation with attendees guided by the following questions:

  • What countries make up the Horn of Africa?
  • What are the major ongoing conflicts and humanitarian emergencies in the region?
  • What is currently being done by the international community to address these conflicts?

Laetitia Bader is the Horn of Africa Director at Human Rights Watch. She has investigated conflict-related abuses, including abuses against children and internally displaced persons in Somalia, and focused on issues of political repression, including mistreatment of political detainees. Before joining Human Rights Watch she worked on the rights of human rights defenders in the East and Horn of Africa region and worked at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Uganda. She holds a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and Sciences-Po in Paris, specializing in human rights, and holds a bachelor’s in history from University College London (UCL).
