Teaching and Learning Biochemistry in Virtual Reality

Brent R. Stockwell, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Chemistry at Columbia University. He has been teaching biochemistry for 17 years. He will discuss the use of virtual reality for teaching biochemistry, and how meeting in VR with students can improve learning of 3D spatial biochemical concepts.Computation and visualization are essential skills for biochemistry and molecular biology students today. Knowledge Synthesis Through Visualization: Design Principles, Tools & Mental Models

Gaël McGill, Ph.D., is founder and CEO of Digizyme Inc., and faculty and director of Molecular Visualization at Harvard Medical School.  He will discuss how dynamic visualizations (and novel tools that enable them) can help shape students' (and scientists'!) mental models of the molecular world.(12:30 PM EDT)
