Register for Empowerment Education Training
for Your Workgroup


The Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute’s (MI-DDI) Empowerment Education Training Initiative provides free education to direct support professionals (DSPs), such as direct care workers, paraprofessionals, and teacher’s aides. These trainings are provided by qualified direct support professionals who work with the Empowerment Education initiative. In the past, trainings have been hosted at schools, agencies, group homes, or any location where DSPs work. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, trainings are currently offered virtually.
Training Modules
 
Each training module lasts one and a half hours. There are sixteen modules to choose from:
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Creating a Culture of Support
  • DSPs Policy Advocacy
  • DSPs: Your Career Opportunity
  • Education for All: Postsecondary Education is an Option for Adults with Disabilities
  • Introduction to Dual Diagnosis
  • Living a Self-Determined Life
  • Making the Transition As Smooth as Possible
  • Person-Centered Planning: Valuing the Contributions of DSPs
  • Self-Advocates and DSPs Working in Partnership to Achieve Life’s Dreams
  • Stress Management: It’s All About Awareness, Attitude, and Action at Work
  • Supporting Growth Through Opportunity and Choices
  • Supporting Individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders
  • Supporting People in Establishing Friendships and Making Community Connections
  • Teaching Made Easy
  • Ten Successful and Assertive Steps for Working with Professionals
     
Request Training

A training group of fifteen (15) people is recommended. However, Empowerment Education staff can work with smaller groups upon request.
