State Archives Celebrates American Archives Month in October
BISMARCK, N.D. – The public is invited to pose questions to North Dakota State Archives staff during an #AskanArchivist program on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m., happening live on the State Historical Society of North Dakota’s (SHSND) Facebook page. Questions may be submitted during the event or beforehand on Facebook, by sending to archives@nd.gov, or by calling 701-328-2091. This program is part of American Archives Month programs hosted by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
#AskAnArchivistDay connects the public with archivists who preserve documents, photographs, audio and visual materials, and artifacts. Learn answers to questions such as: How should I store photos from my phone so I can access them later? How can teachers build student interest in using archives for projects? What’s the craziest thing you’ve come across in your collections?
Additional American Archives Month programs on the SHSND Facebook page include a Tuesday virtual scavenger hunt and Facebook Feature Friday of items from the Archives collections.
The State Archives will also be celebrating American Archives Month through some of its partnerships. Together with the Al Larvick Foundation, the State Historical Society will host a video program, Tales from the Prairie: North Dakota Families’ Home Movies. Highlighting collections from the 1930s through the 1980s, the films include new narrations recorded by the filmmakers and their families and will be showing in the State Museum's Great Plains Theater and at youtube.com/user/SHSND. Oct. 23-29. In partnership with Prairie Public Radio, its Dakota Datebook will showcase the State Archives history and holdings during October.
