The Virginia Cyber Range is once again hosting a Capture the Flag event for Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week! This CTF will include challenges aligned with the categories from the NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity.

  • CTF Start Time: October 18th at 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern time
  • CTF End Time: October 21st at 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern time
CCAW CTF WORKSHOP

We will also host a virtual CTF Workshop from 10:30am - 12pm noon on Monday, October 18th. In this workshop, we will introduce different types of CTF competitions, focusing on Jeopardy-style CTFs. We will discuss different kinds of CTF challenges and how to approach them, along with the tools you might use to solve them. You might even get some hints related to the CCAW CTF!

The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative invites you to attend the Road to Equity-Conscious Research in Cybersecurity webinar on October 14th from 11am-12pm. It  is the first stop in a series of quarterly workshops designed to help increase diversity in cybersecurity as well as explore how diversity, equity and inclusion impacts research and technology. 

Keynote speaker Gloria Ladson-Billings, president of the National Academy of Education, will introduce the concept of culturally relevant teaching methods, followed by a panel that will share their best hacks to ensure diversity in their programs.

Throughout the month of October, Palo Alto Networks will hold a series of workshops for kids around cybersecurity awareness and careers!

CYBERFEST - Securing a Cybersecurity Internship, hosted by Palo Alto Networks.

This webinar is aimed at college sophomores through grad students graduating in 2023 or later, as well as younger students wanting to know how to prepare themselves now to apply for summer internships at Palo Alto Networks or other cybersecurity companies in future years.

Students will be led in a discussion about determining authenticity on the internet centered around fraudulent photos.

Join the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) for a fireside chat with several National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) cybersecurity and privacy professionals. Learn how they got into their respective fields, the challenges and rewards, advice for a successful career in cybersecurity and privacy, and much more.

All Virginia students are invited to participate in CyberOps’21 on October 22-23 either via Zoom or in-person to get hands-on cybersecurity experience and network with industry professionals.

Have your resumes ready! This free event hosted by Old Dominion University isn’t limited to STEM majors and will feature a capture the flag competition with prizes. Register to attend.

NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference Stipend Opportunity

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and CYBER.ORG are proud to support the 2021 NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference by providing educators a stipend to attend this conference and professional development opportunity. Application deadline is October 25.

The Annual NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference, supported by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), and hosted by iKeepSafe, brings together members of the K12 educational ecosystem in support of growing the cybersecurity workforce of the future.

The 2021 NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference will be a VIRTUAL EVENT on December 6-7, 2021. Take advantage of early bird pricing by registering between September 1 - October 31. 

In celebration of Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week, students have the opportunity to participate in the 2021 CAREERS IN CYBERSECURITY POSTER CONTEST to design a poster to inspire and promote awareness of the exploration of cybersecurity careers. 

Students will use their creative superpowers to show all the amazing things that a cybersecurity defender can do for the Digital Universe by drawing a picture of a cybersecurity worker that shows what they know about cybersecurity and their work to help answer the question: What does a cybersecurity worker look like? 

All poster submissions are due no later than November 12, 2021. Winners will be notified by December 1,  2021.

Virginia Cyber Range resources are limited to faculty/students at Virginia high schools, colleges, and universities.
