Tricycle Race at Highlands!!  Thanks to our Pajama Run Supporters!!

Principal's Update,

We had a lot of fun this morning with our tricycle race and silly string winners.  We want to thank everyone for supporting our school and PTO.  The funds raised were through the roof!   We are so grateful to all of you.

Silly String winners!

CONFERENCES:
On Monday the 27th at 4:00 pm Meet the Teacher will be available for parents to sign up for conferences.  Parents must be able to access their Infinite Campus account:

The information the parent enters into Meet the Teacher, must match what is in Infinite Campus.  This means that they need to enter both the student first name, last name and student ID as well as their first name, last name and email exactly as it appears in Infinite Campus.  If the parent does not know their child’s student ID, they should look in IC Parent Portal for that information.

Directions will be sent to parents on how to use Meet the Teacher.

Crosswalks:
We know there is concern that there is currently no crosswalks around the school.  The city is surveying and planning where the best locations will be along with the signage needed.  There is also a position available on the St Vrain job listing site for a crosswalk monitor.  If you or someone you know is looking for a part time job or something that might fit around there children's schedule, please let them know this is available.  Meanwhile, please be aware of children entering from all sides of the school when you are dropping off.  We ask that NO parents park on the south side parking lot as this is for bus pick up and drop off.

SUBSTITUTES:

There is a need for substitutes in the district. If you are interested in helping serve our school as a Guest Teacher (Substitute), please know that we have just instituted a new pilot pay tier structure for this 2021-2022 school year that increases the pay for our guest teachers. The starting pay is $115/day, but increases to $130/day after subbing for 20 days and increases again to $140/day after subbing for 80 days. We need your help! Please apply now at  https://www.applitrack.com/stvrain/onlineapp/default.aspx . If you have any questions, feel free to email ball_ryan@svvsd.org.

Hello, Highlands Community!

The school’s mission states “In partnership with our community, Highlands Elementary celebrates creative, curious and empathetic learners, empowering all to reach their full potential and positively impact our global society.” One way that we are making an effort to put our mission into action is by including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to provide support, resources and programs for our school community.

My name is Theresa Boakye, and I will be serving this year as Highland’s DEI Coordinator on the PTO. This is a new position on the PTOs in the Erie area, so I wanted to take a minute to explain why it’s important to have this position in our schools, what that role is and topic areas we’ll be focusing on. I say “we”, because I’ll also be asking anyone who is interested to join me to form a DEI Committee to plan and offer programs and activities throughout the year. Stop by our table at the Grand Opening Celebration on Sept. 9!
